"Susannah? It's Marian."

"Marian. What can I do for you?"

"You got the memo last month, I assume, about the security team we sent up to Maine, near Bangor?"

"Yes, that's right. Based on something in the new book, isn't that right? Did something happen?"

"No, but I've been discussing the situation there with Michael Copeland. He thinks, and I agree, that some executive decisions need to be made. He's prepared a brief on the short story in question and I'd like for us to meet this week to come to a conclusion."

"You and me?"

"And Michael, for his technical expertise on Stephen King. Is there anyone else you think should be included?"

"I'd like to bring Rose along. I'm trying to bring her in, a little bit at a time, on the work we do."

"Of course."

"And Charlie McGee."

"I'm not sure I see how Taos is related to this issue."

"It's not. I want her there representing my foundation. Untangling these operations is going to be tricky and I think keeping everyone involved is the best way to go."

"I understand. We've brought her in on Skype before. I'll make sure to have that set-up."

"When were you thinking of?"

"Well, if you want your daughter there, I suppose the weekend would be best. I'm free, and Michael is putting in overtime to get his division in order before the end of the month, so he'll be here in any case. Is that acceptable?"

"Yes, sure. Saturday?"

"All right. Why don't I send an email chain around to nail down a time? Tell Charlie to look for it. I'll include Michael's report, also."

"All right."

"Also, I'd like... what would you think about having Nancy Deepneau sit in? Electronically?"

"Well, is she up to it, Marian? The last you told me was that she wasn't able to come up to the working floors without panicking."

"Yes, but we're wondering if it might not be geographical--if there might not be a workaround. We've been talking on the phone a lot, sometimes about business, and she's been quite helpful.

She was my right hand for ten years, Susannah. I'd like her input."

"All right. Is she set-up for Skype as well?"

"I'm sure she could be by the end of the week."

"All right."

"Susannah--if you're going to include Rose, she'll have to be briefed on Stephen King. The report won't make any sense otherwise."

"I know."

"Good luck."

"I'll see you Saturday, Marian. And I'll watch for your email."

She gets Charlie's voicemail when she calls. Not surprising. Busy lady.

"Charlie, we're having a meeting on Saturday. I want you in on it, electronically. Watch your emails for details. It's about--well, something like the 1408 business. You can call me when you get this, but that's all I know so far. I'll speak with you soon."

She sounds like a woman with something else on her mind.
