Kaylee,

Thank you for what you did for Qianbeth Hua. Not everyone has the strength of character to make such a commitment, especially at a time when you were yourself suffering. I know the time and effort you put into this will be a great comfort to her, especially as we move into the holidays here. It's a time when family is especially important.

It wouldn't just be disingenuous to pretend there are no hard feelings between us; it would be dishonest to the point of insulting your intelligence, I think. But I do appreciate this, and what you did for Rose and me, and not just on that one awful night. Her new interest in cooking is, as far as I can tell, due entirely to the meals you made together.

I do want her to know that there are strong and honorable people in the worlds who aren't gunslingers, and who may disagree with us. I hope in the end it will all be for the best.

She asked me to enclose this Christmas gift, as well.

I apologize if I've violated your wish to be left alone by writing.
