So a friend asked me about writing and creativity. ( Here is the question and my reply. )

When I hit ruts and don't like the material I'm turning out, I take the pressure off myself and do something completely silly and not my style. Like if I were writing a screenplay and finding dialogue or plot infuriating, I would stop and dash off a melodramatic story like the ones I wrote in middle school. It can be relaxing to just create something and let yourself off the hook from creating something you really like. And it can be funny.

I find myself often getting into something I'll just call "project ADD." I'll keep starting something new when I should be tweaking and finishing something else.

There is definitely something to be said for letting your creativity run free in a place where you expect nothing of yourself.
