So, yesterday was my 3rd day at work - and they sent me to a conference to represent the school on transitional services. Despite every other thing coming out of my mouth being "It's my 3rd day" it went rather well. I learned a lot and made a fair amount of contacts that will undoubtedly be useful down the road. That said I just spent another half hour sorting through and filing the forests' worth of paperwork I picked up there. Huzzah. And my rolodex is now complete after an age of stapling business cards in. And I haven't added a single written entry yet. Blarg. I'm looking forward to having everything set up so that I can actually start feeling useful around here. I seem to have no problem allowing work things to degrade into mass disarray after I've been around for awhile (yon typical "that pile is clean and that is dirty" mindset from growing up) but when I start out everything needs to have, and be in, it's place. If not I have immense difficulty being and feeling productive. I have a lovely list of things to accomplish in both written and computer format. So far I can check off a grand total of one thing. All others are partially started or halfway completed either due to lack of materials (still waiting on some rather necessary office supplies - though to be fair they have gotten me over half of the things I asked for) or brain-burnout from staring at repeat papers too much. I like this job - I really do. I'm just ready to move out of the solely preparation stage.
