august 3 - when everyone loves you, you can never be lonely

'You look very different with your hair loose,' Toki says one day.
Kon glances at him, looks away. 'Who asked you?' he mutters.
Kuchiha prods him with her foot where he sits on the veranda. 'You're being an idiot,' she says.
Outside, it begins to rain.

In his dream there is pressure like water. His ears ring. is this fake, he whispers, do you know?
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER.
can you tell me? he asks. Thinks he asks. He cannot hear his voice. what is true?

'Nothing stays the same forever,' Suou says. He is cooking at the stove. Sweating in the heat. 'Nothing is- is- help me out here?' He flaps the hand holding the spatula. A drop of sauce hits the floor by Toki's seat at the table. The woman seated next to him smiles. 'Nothing is-'
'Static,' she says.
'Thank you. Yes. Nothing has always been the same. It's everything else that changes.' He stirs the mixture on the stove. The windows are both open. The warm damp breeze only moves the warm damp air a little. With the stove turned on it is stifling in the little kitchen.

'I'm sorry it's not much use,' Heihachi says. 'If you need any more help, let me know, ok?' He smiles. The air smells of rain.
'Only if it's no trouble,' Toki says. 'Thanks again!' He waves as he runs off.

the sky flickers for a moment, the way a fluorescent light stutters when it is switched on. and isn't that a comparison from another lifetime.
it is very blue.

'If I wanted to, you would not be able to stop me,' Tsuyukusa says, and he is comforted by the thought, largely because he does not know it is untrue.
Toki doesn't know if it's true or not, but he smiles; or rather, continues to smile, as it does not appear he ever stopped.

'I don't get it,' Kuchiha said. 'What are you smiling about?'
He laughed a little and she had blushed. Where is she now, the girl with the ocean behind her eyes.

'Well, of course I can,' Bonten says. 'I am just that amazing -' and Tsuyukusa snorts and Utsubushi's feathers rustle and Toki's eyes are wide, his expression vacant for a moment only. He smiles. The sun makes bright patches on the forest floor.

'No second chances,' Ginshu whispers.

isn't there something missing?
NO. NOTHING IS MISSING.
then why is everything going wrong?
There is no answer. The air is dry but he feels like he's drowning.
