The rain takes them by surprise. It soaks them in minutes; Jack runs for the manse and Glen is close behind. The grass slaps their ankles. The water is warm. They run up the steps to the covered terrace, and Jack laughs breathlessly and shakes water out of his hair. Drops hit glen in the face. The air beyond them is dim and wet enough to drown in. Lightning flashes. Someone is playing a piano in the next room.
