It's been a great start to what looks like a great year, with family and food and friends--although I barely stayed up past midnight on Saturday night. About 11:30 I found myself lying on the couch, with various family members scattered all over the family room, asking plaintively if we had to stay up till midnight? I got to bed at 10:30 last night to make up for it, and was up again at 7:30 this morning to go walking with Dad. We set a brisk pace for about an hour, making it through the bog and out to the lake and back, and talking about everything under the sun on the way. It was a great opportunity to be with my dad, and reminds me of how much I'll miss him when I get back to school... But I'll survive. I'm tough, see!
sna32! Your present got here! Saturday evening, maybe an hour after I finished talking to you, our neighbor knocked on the door and said the package had been accidentally delivered to his house! I danced the whole time I was opening it and for many minutes after. Rosalind and I watched the first four episodes of FMA that night, but I'm gonna save the rest of it till I get back to school. And the other present (which I won't mention for fear of spoilering Fi) is lovely as well; the post-its are terrific! (It's awesome to see what you like, and it makes me think a lot more.) THANK YOU SO MUCH!
As you can see, we've started the ANBU tests. I'm afraid it may be a bit slow from here, as each candidate is tested individually; but we don't anticipate the tests taking longer than two posts each (one from the ANBU, one from the candidate; they can be as long as they need to be to showcase your applicant's reaction.) In your reply, please show exactly how your character would deal with this situation. Follow mission rules? Break them? Break the genjutsu altogether? Stay in character--even if the results aren't what you'd like, write as your character would live.
Not every candidate will have the same challenge. The basic idea is that Ryuu and the ANBU Mouse have gleaned information both from the candidates' mission records and their shinobi profiles (and Ryuu really, really wishes they had a Yamanaka in their ranks, too!) in order to create a genjutsu where the applicant is faced with the necessity of killing someone it would be really, really hard for him or her to kill. A child, a crippled old man, a pregnant woman, the candidate's own father or mother or lover... What would be toughest for your candidate to deal with (that the ANBU would know about?) The situation may not be a mission. For example, for Chihiro, they might create a genjutsu where it seems that Ryuu has betrayed the village and tried to assassinate Nidaime, and Chihiro has to kill him. (I'm not sure that Ryuu would do that--imagine knowing that the woman you loved has assassinated you in her own mind!--but that's the general idea.) We're trying to put your character through severe emotional trauma, so keep that in mind!
And, if you don't mind, please comment to this post with an idea or two for your candidate? I'm afraid I had to guess on Tsuba's, so if that doesn't work,
beloved_baka, tell me and I'll change it...
Thanks for your patience; go forth and cheerfully prepare to write mind-torture, my minions!
There will be more New Years' news (and shout-outs) when I have time. Right now I'm supposed to be packing; I'm changing rooms tonight, as school starts for my sisters tomorrow and Elise needs her room back. My flight leaves Wednesday afternoon, so by Wednesday night I should be home in Provo!
Luff to all~
