Sweet Surprise
"I hate these police galas. It's just another excuse for the boys to ogle my breasts and treat me like a piece of meat." Anna quips dryly and smoothes out her green satin gown awkwardly, taking a step closer to Flack in the process. He just looks down at her with a faint smirk tugging at his lips, his eyes following the neckline of her gown to her breasts and the very nice view their height difference gives him.
He shrugged, still giving her the once over with his eyes.
Anna caught him undressing her with his eyes and thought back to a conversation she'd had with Nina Cassady about the smug little grin Flack got when he saw her - that meant he'd seen her naked, apparently - and scoffed. "Don!" She laughed and smacked him on the forearm with her clutch.
He chuckled and rubbed his arm. "What?"
Eyes narrowed, she poked him in the chest. "Perv." A grin tugged at the corner of her lips and ruined her 'angry girlfriend' façade. When he just smirked she shook her head with a smile. "It's a good thing Messer and Angell aren't here yet. Cause we'd never hear the end of it."
He frowned a little and arched a brow at her. "They wouldn't notice."
She looked up at him incredulously. "Uh huh. Angell already knows we're sleeping together. Cassady didn't even have to tell her. And Messer ain't that oblivious."
There was a pause and he frowned a little more. There were some things Flack liked to keep out of work. Things that weren't meant to be food, his family, and who he was sleeping with. Especially where Angell was concerned. Really, she gave him a hard enough time without bringing his apparently not-so-secret relationship with Anna into it. At the moment he was just grateful Angell never brought it up.
His train of thought was interrupted when someone shoved past them, bumping into Anna and forcing her closer to him. There was a quiet gasp as her hand instinctively went to his chest, lightly gripping his tuxedo shirt. She hated crowds, and being touched on her back without permission. Her features softened and he recognized the twinge of fear in her eyes and instinctively draped an arm around her waist, holding her close. "You okay?" He asked quietly and rested a hand on the small of her back when she pulled away, nodding.
"I hate crowds." She murmured and he resisted the urge to lean in and kiss the top of her head, instead reaching up with his free hand to brush a stray hair from her face.
"I know."
"I know you know." She smiled softly up at him, the familiar spark of affection in her gaze and he smiled back. Returning to people-watching and memorizing all the exits in the room, Anna grinned. "Stella's here."
Flack followed her gaze and saw Stella enter with Mac, smiling and nodding before returning his gaze to her. There was something about Anna that just captivated him and right now she was kind of cute in that awkward tomboy-at-the-prom way.
Anna was oblivious to the staring, doing some staring of her own. "God, she looks beautiful, doesn't she?" She gushed, letting out an envious sigh as she watched Stella move gracefully through the crowd. Truth be told, Anna admired the woman's strength, grace, and beauty. Anna was strong and beautiful in her own right, but horribly awkward and a bit clumsy, and it fed her insecurity.
Flack smiled and shrugged, his fingers idly drumming against her lower back.
"Don..." She said in her stern 'answer me, dumbass' manner, a slender brow arching high at him.
He smirked and leaned in, murmuring softly into her ear. "Yeah, but I'm not exactly lookin' at her."
"It's a simple question. I'm not gonna get jealous if you think she’s more beau-" Anna's prepared ramble stopped mid-sentence when he leaned in and she felt a big blush flood her cheeks. "You- wait- what?"
His smirk turned into a wide grin as he looked at her, his ice blue eyes locking with her emerald eyes. "I'm lookin' at you, Anna." She was really cute when she blushed, and he always felt a small swell of pride when she got flustered around him. And it happened a lot. "You look beautiful tonight."
She turned to face him, eyes tearing a little. "You're too by the- the book to let me kiss you in front of half the NYPD. Cause if you keep that up I'm not gonna be able to help my-myself." She smiled gratefully and reached up to straighten his bowtie, her lip quivering a little.
"Anna."
"Don." She answered in her usual joking tone.
"Anna." He reached up to capture her hands with one of his, stopping them. She looked up at him confused and he slid his other hand up her back to cup her face gently. Flack leaned in and brushed his lips over hers slowly.
Her eyes widened in shock as she kissed him back, her heart stopping for a brief moment. The moment was so perfect, her heart wouldn't let her forget it.
