So, back from MarCon!

It was a lot of fun, found Amy! (There was much happiness and hugging of said Amy.)

Much rambly trip stuff below cut.

I got to talk one on one with a couple of published authors which was nice. Did decent money wise, which is good since I forgot to register and had to do that, and got a few things in the dealer room. New wallet with old coins and compasses printed on it that is hand sewn, got Dad a bag with tiger eyes, a bookmark for a friend at work, and three keychain 'bugs' (real bugs trapped in...plastic stuff?) and gave the scorpion one of those to same friend at work. Wish I'd had more to spend but eh, it was fun. (Also lusted like no ones business over an awesome bag, might link if I find their card...).

Athena and I left around 2pm Ohio time and started towards Tennessee. We went to Jungle Jim's where I lusted after the cooking equipment and ended up buying a cupcake filler (? it's a cup with a long spout that makes it easy to make muffins/cupcakes), a spice I hadn't heard off that was cheap, and four mini-pie pans. Then sushi because, sweet Lord, lots of sushi for good prices, and I would so move into Jungle Jim's if I could. I bought two cans of braised eel for Pa (just so he'd have something interesting to try). Paid, ate half of my sushi, much happiness.

We stopped and spent the night in Richmond, KY at a Motel 6 with net access. I went to grab dinner at the Cracker Barrel that was almost on top of the motel. Athena wasn't hungry so I braved the wilds alone. Nice waiter, he saw my fries were...over done a bit much and took them away to get me more. I ended up ordering off the kids menu so I got a burger, fries, and a glass of tea for $3.70. Funny bit happens when I leave. There's complimentary road maps and I decide to get one but it feels kinda thick and despite it saying 'complimentary map' I ask to make sure.

Me: These are complimentary, right?
Cashier lady: -blinks at me-
Me: -repeats question-
Cashier lady: You can have it, yeah. They're free. I don't even know what complimentary means.
Me: -smiles and pays while boggling-

She looked frazzled and I'm sure she figured it out later.

Went back to motel which had a grouping of pretty roses almost right outside our door. I ate the sushi I had left as a snack later that night and we slept in (ok I did more then Athena) and then got things together and went to find foods and to go to the Hibari Market (Lexington Japanese food store).

Thus begins the Lexington adventure.

See, we looked places to eat up on the net before leaving, decided on a place, found out it didn't exist and decided to just go towards Lexington and eat there. Then picked another place to stop by (a chocolate/candy store from what I could get) and found out they were closed. So, we chose another place and well, it started raining a lot, the traffic was blocked in certain areas due to a bike event of some sort and Athena was about to start becoming violent. I reset Gar-chan (navigation thing that talks) to take us back to Hibari. That's when we see a sushi place and circle and find parking. Sushi place is closed. Not only is sushi place (Tomo's I think) closed but it has a note up to apologize to someone who had reserved them for that day and say they had tried to contact him/her and were unable to.

At this point it's about 1 or 2 pm. We left the motel at 11. I ate last some time around 11 or 12 the night before. I decide to walk around and see what they've got in the area. (Added bonus is Athena stays out of the car a bit and gets a chance to stretch and become less angry like, you were a bit angry and frustrated like Athena -pats-).

Buddy's Grill and neat looking Cajun place are closed but Athena spots a small Mexican place as we're circling around and we find a cross walk and check it out. (Side note: How cool are cross walks? I mean...wow. They're everywhere in Lexington).

Rincon Mexicano is open. You have to go in and up some stairs and the place is great. Everything's bright and painted and the ceiling has a skylight and is painted like a blue sky. It's very pretty and we're shown to a table and given hot chips. Yum. I got the 'Quesadilla Cactus Jack' which was a pork, Monterrey Jack, and cactus quesadilla. It was stuffed full of meat and came out with lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Yummy and spicy and the cactus was good. I kind of want to try cactus alone now.

Anyway, we get fed and go. Find out the Hibari Market is closed (I was sad). Back on the road.

There is much driving.

Along the way we stopped at an antique and junk shop which was fun. We stopped because they had ice cream and we got ice cream and ate it an old fashioned drug store like bar. I got a pink lady to go which I'd never heard of. It's got (as near as I could figure and from what the lady told me) the juice of half an orange, the juice of a whole lemon, cherry flavoring, and sugar water or water and some other sweetener. She said she got the recipe when she bought something (didn't catch what but I thought it was the soda fountain area) from the drug store it had been in.

Then, we went home. :}

Things that I was reminded of at the con: WRITE! If you don't write you will never get published!

So, in that vein, I'm gonna try to get a couple of hours in every day.

Might ramble on here a bit about it too, or dust off my writer's LJ.

writing, marcon, me
