Athena wanted to hit Nashville Monday and I went along. We went to sushi (the conveyor belt sushi place is awesome if you hit it early) and hit a few places to shop. I bought quail eggs while at a very nice Asian Market/Deli that I wished I lived close to and a few other things.
Today's bento is from my craving for spicy crap rolls.
So, yes, it's green. I'm still not really good/sure of what goes into the yummy spicy crab I get at sushi places. I'm pretty sure imitation crab and chili oil and mayo are all in there somewhere. Well, I had a soft avocado and I figured I'd use that as the mixing/binding ingredient instead of mayo.
I scooped the avocado into a bowl, added a bit of lime juice and a bit of rice vinegar and mushed it. Then added chili garlic paste and chili oil and the crab meat and more stirring. I debated how to use it and ended up using my small roll rice ball maker and wrapping them in teriyaki flavored nori sheets and then cutting them in half before topping with the spicy crab. The odd end roll is one of my first 'figuring out' attempts that turned out well enough I kept it too and its got boiled quail eggs on either side. Also taking a banana and cereal bar.
Next time I think I'll make a simple roll (cucumber, carrot, or something like that) and then slice and top with this.
Oh! And the bento is something I found at Rite-Aid for a $1.50, not as sturdy as an actual bento but the price was right.
