I did know that!

I wrote an 11k story for a ficathon once and had to split it into three posts.

I forget what the character limit is per post but if you poke at the faq you might be able to find it.

There's probably also client-dependencies. My gut says that web posting probably has the smallest limit due to the nature of web forms.

I *did* know. Years ago I was joking about using LJ posts to pass files, using a tool that can convert any file to/from a block of text. I thought it was all neat until someone pointed out in the FAQ (which I can no longer find) the 5kbyte per post limit.

Not too much can fit in a 5kbyte file.
