So, for my birthday, in addition to several gifts from various awesome people, I got to go to the doctor and get my yearly physical. Everything was going well--basically, I'm not sick with anything new or as-yet-undiscovered--until she glanced down at my sheet and asked me if I remembered when the last time I got my
DTap shot. My answer was "Uhhh....no?" meaning I was due for one. I know I hadn't gotten one in college or since moving to Worcester, which meant that I was at least at the decade due date. So she makes a note of that and then says, "I see you got your regular flu shot, but not your H1N1. Would you like one of those, too?"
Let's see. It's the ass-end of winter, I've been stupid stressed out over the past few weeks, and I'll be going to two, possibly three conventions in the next few weeks, and I'm immuno-compromised. Yes, I think I'd like my H1N1 shot, please.
Except suddenly that meant I was getting two shots at the same time, both of them vaccines. (Plus blood drawn, but it was a day that ended in -y and I was at the doctor's. No surprises.)
So I got one shot in each shoulder (and the Dtap is still pretty sore) and then got to go home to people who wanted to hug me and wish me a happy birthday (I ran game that night). Everyone was really good about giving me gentle hugs and watching my arms, except
ddrpolaris, who grabbed me by the arm and jostled me a bit when we paused game for cake. But, fortunately, it was the H1N1 arm, so after a bit of howling, I forgave him.
Of course, the problem with getting not one but two vaccinations was that my body suddenly started scrambling around trying to make antibodies and the whole nine yards. During game, I found myself getting veeeeeeery sleeeeeeeeeeepy and going to bed almost immediately after everyone left. The next day, I felt even worse and spent most of the day sleeping, sore, and kinda grumpy. Today is really the first day I feel normal, even if my arm still hurts from the vaccine.
Of course, for all my bitching and moaning, I'll still stab anyone in the face if they suggest that vaccinations are 'wrong' or 'bad'. That shit drives me insane and the anti-vaxxers are pretty high on my list of people to throttle once I take over the planet. I'm just going to assume all of you understand why vaccines are so important (ie, have a basic working knowledge of history) and save my blood pressure.
