Fallout 3, Quick Review

Mar 03, 2009 16:01

I'm only several hours in (I'm spending the day at the Mello/Silvestri residence who are, sadly, PS3-less, though they have any number of other awesome things), but I can already say this much: this video game scares the crap outta me.

Well, not scares, per se. It's more that I'm constantly on the edge of my chair, waiting for something to pop out at me--like the goddamn giant radscorpion that killed me outside of the Super-Duper Mart. And the goddamn raiders that nearly killed me inside said Super-Duper Mart.

These guys are not your friends

Seriously, though. They crank the creepy up to 11, and then suggest you wander around for a while.

It's a good game though. I play it in 3rd person view (I'm not very talented in 1st person it seems) and VATS is the only thing that makes the combat playable, at least for me (again with the not very talented bit). I really like being able to pause the combat, decide what part of the body I'm going to shoot (it tells me my percentage change to hit) and how often, and then get my shots off before the other guy can respond.

Before discovering VATS, I died a lot.

Next time I'm able to allocate points in attributes, I'm so dumping most of them into Agility. Much like using Celerity, I enjoy the ability to go seven times in a single round.

Speaking of Celerity, I've gotten nothing done today, other than reading bonisagus's copy of Vampire: Dark Ages, which he left on the couch as a way to tempt me away from reading for my thesis like the virtuous monkey I'd intended to be (or because he hadn't gotten around to putting it away yet). Oh, and napping since I stayed up till 4 playing Fallout 3. I'm not sure if it was because I'd gotten to a more suspenseful point in the game or not, but it got a helluva lot more nerve-wracking after shogunhb went to bed.
