Went out to PetSmart today and spent a lot of time (and money!) buying things for the kitten. Since
purple_dj and
quish got all the cat stuff in the divorce, we were basically starting from scratch--although
quish did generously offer to give us the kitty fountain, as Toti and Orson are too scared to use it. I'm attempting to say that with as little inflection (and snickering) as possible.
I think I will be limiting the kitten's exposure to Toti and Orson. They are bad influences--I'd like to have a properly socialized cat. For example, we had to buy new bathmats because Toti decided it was fun to pee all over the ones we had. Of course, they were disintigrating (housekeeping tip: don't dry your rubber-bottomed mat in the dryer).
I kinda wish I wanted kids so I can say something similar to some stuck up soccer mom.
I'm supposed to get my kitten on Thursday, but I may actually hold off for another week or so. He'll only be 5 weeks on Thursday, which is pretty young to be taken from his mom. Just about everyone I mentioned his age to (
shogunhb, my mom, the vet, the PetSmart lady) was horrified at the idea of taking him so young. So we'll be asking
lalaithpigeon if she'd mind keeping him a wee bit longer. Don't get me wrong, I WANT MY KITTY RIGHT NOW, but if keeping him with him mom for a few more weeks will be better for him, then that's what we'll do. We did pick up some special kitten formula (from 4-8 weeks), so if
lalaithpigeon can't keep him longer, he'll have food that contains a lot of the enzymes and nutrients and vitamins and whatall that his mother's milk would. The chick at PetSmart said that between that food and a LOT of human attention and interaction, he'd probably be okay if he left his mom at 5 weeks, but while it's doable, it's not optimal.
So,
kadath, I may put a strain on our friendship by asking you to come over, watch Torchwood, occasionally sign for packages, and (oh goodness!) play with my kitten. Truly, I am brazen.
In other news, my September weekends are filling up insanely fast, and, on top of that, I'm already booked for two weddings next year. I'll be a maid of honor in one of those, too. If she decides to buy a house that same month, I am lighting her on fire Y'know, just sayin'.
shogunhb on masculinity: "It's totally manly to cry at musicals!"
(Yes, that was a joke. At least, I think so.)
We've rented (and will be watching soon) Love in the Time of Cholera. Once I see it, I can go read the copy that
sirroxton and
verrucaria got me for my birthday. I firmly believe in watching the movie first. It gives me a chance to actually like the movie. So, yeah, I hear that Love in the Time of Cholera is wonderful, amazing, and whatnot. I'm just hoping I can watch it without experiencing PTSD or anything. ~_^
EDIT: Upon further discussion, it appears I do not actually OWN Love in the Time of Cholera. I was confusing that with another book they got for me, The War for Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts. I think the confusion comes from that book and the copy of Love in the Time of Cholera that I'm most familiar with have the same cover artist. Still, it was a pretty dumb mistake to make.
Oh yeah, and our
illustrious president is
secretly a douchebag. In case you were wondering.
