Wedding Shower
I just wanted to thank everyone who came to our Worcester wedding shower yesterday. Super thanks go to people who brought food, especially Cat and Xanet for going far and above the call of duty. Extra-special thanks go to people who took food home with them.
And thanks beyond all possible imaginings go to Toph and Quish (and Justin!) for all the time, effort, cash, and sanity they surrendered to make this shower happen.
It was a really nice, laid-back gathering, with forced-anecdotes, weird gifts (for the guests!), and much laughter. I don't really have much experience with showers, but this didn't feel much like the kind you see in movies. It was more of a party with a bunch of friends, some of whom happened to also bring gifts.
You know what? I'm pretty glad of that. I'm kind of uncomfortable with "expectation-giving." I won't lie and say "No, I hate getting presents" (see Lucas? Not a liar.) because I do enjoy getting gifts. But I hate people feeling like they HAVE to give me a gift, or that they shouldn't come to a party because they don't have one. I don't think that's what gatherings should be about. We invite you because we like you and enjoy your company, not because we think you're going to buy us that food processor we saw at the mall three weeks ago, or whatever.
Speaking of "presents" I'm pretty sure I'm sick again. Thanks guys.
