Oy, people. Raise your child on British television and see what happens. They speak like a Brit part of the time.
In all seriousness ... I'm editing a book for my job right now. And I came across the word toward, which I highlighted to double check later, feeling strongly it should be towards.
A quick Google search later and I have discovered that the two are interchangeable, like backward/backwards and forward/forwards. The only difference being that in each of these pairings of words, the ones ending in s correspond with British usage whereas the ones without the s correspond with American usage.
And that, all these years have gone by and I speak like a Brit. I go towards things all the time. Or, I walk backwards. Mayhap, thankfully, I have always been a very forward girl in my movement so at least I've got one Americanism going on for me there.
What are some other Briticisms vs. Americanisms out there that other people know about? I may think they're perfectly correct. (And, yes, I do spell all sorts of things with an ou instead of just an o.)
