If things get bad enough that you need assistance to survive, TANF is much easier to get in Denver county than in Arapahoe county. In Denver they act like you need help (at least on the front lines; the bureaucracy is still screwed) but in Arapahoe county everyone is out to defraud the government. We mentioned this to HHS when we went in for assistance after moving to Denver, and she told us that our observation was a very common one.
So if things are looking lean on the horizon, you might want to see if you can move into Denver for the better social supports at the bottom of the ladder.
Rent, however, is likely to be less in Aurora. I'll keep my ears open, but I'm afraid I don't hear much about rentals. You all are definitely in my thoughts.
