Ladies and gentlemen ...
I went to play catch up on my Strangers in Paradise and discovered that not more than two weeks ago, the final issue hit the stands.
Saying goodbye to Strangers in Paradise is weird. It's like an old friend has moved away. Someone you've known for ages. Someone you'll be able to visit every now and then, but clearly not someone who will continue to be heavily involved in your life.
S.i.P. is a comic I started reading when I was about 18. That's 12 years of my life, off and on, dedicated to being a fan of this storyline. Just two years shy of what the creator himself says he's devoted to it, oddly enough. I can still remember the image that finally caused me to give in and find out what this crazy comic was all about. A beautiful image on the cover of Katchoo standing in a sheet is what caught my eye and I've been hooked ever since.
There are a few stories in my life that I rely on to continuously be crazier, zanier or just plain worse than what's happening in my reality zone. S.i.P. and the crazy concoction of characters are one of those stories. David, Francine, and Katchoo are done with their story, though, and it is time to let them move on.
That having been said ... I need to say a few things before I let go.
I have loved the ups and downs of these people's tale as if it were my own. I have related and delved into the depths of crazy with these characters. And I have been better for it.
S.i.P. has always challenged me to think outside the box, constantly. I have loved this about this series and the casual non-assumptions that come along with the story.
I am proud to have called S.i.P. one of my favorite series. And, it will continue to be in that category for comics for the rest of my life.
Thank you to Terry Moore for the last 14 years of your life. Your fans do appreciate it. All of it.
