Ok, so I know that last week I had pretty much accepted that SPN just isn't as good as it used to be but I'd keep watching because I'm addicted like that. But this episode? I completely freakin' loved it. I wasn't expecting an angel to be behind it (I was sure it was the trickster), and I'm not sure I completely bought the explanation that was given, but whatever. This was a pretty kickass episode.
Only thing I can't get over, though, is how those people died just for the sake of some test for Dean to get his mojo back. I guess their lives aren't as important. :/ Which to the angels, they probably aren't. Sucks for them.
And what was up with them not calling someone after the security guy got decapitated? That's gonna look good. Seriously, good luck explaining why you waited a couple of hours to call the police. Not to mention the mess they made with the glass and burning gloves and whatnot. Security cameras?
All minor details, I suppose. I loved this episode, though. So. Much. Which is saying something, considering I was wary about even watching it in the first place. I missed 'saving people, hunting things.' The motherfucking Ghostfacers were back (which is making me want to finish that ghostfacers fic I started like a year ago, haha). And the part where Zachariah touched Dean's head and the color scheme changed back to the SPN gray-toned world? I may have made a happy little sound. Best line, though: "Angel or not, I will stab you in the face."
One thing I was finally able to do was put my finger on why the writing (dialogue, specifically) on SPN strikes me as off sometimes. Sometimes with the dialogue it's like whoever was writing was making a point of trying to be clever but comes up just short of being funny/relevant. References thrown in for the sake of references. Poor man's Buffy, if you will (and I say that as someone who didn't even care for that show that much, but will admit that Whedon knew how to drop a reference without it sounding too forced). It's like someone went 'we need a modern day reference in this bit of dialogue. Go.' And the person doing the referencing didn't wiki the source so it doesn't make all that much sense in the context of what's being said, so. It isn't as funny as it could be.
But anyway. Fuck yeah, that was awesome. I can't wait for the fic that's bound to crop up after this. I want AU verse fic where Sam Wesson and Dean Smith become demon hunters and learn the ropes together and after their first successful hunt they're so high on adrenaline that there's frantic sexing in the Impala. Don't make me write it myself.
