Rejection #1: Prof. Barbara Smuts at the University of Michigan
Not my fault, really. She has health concerns, which I completely understand, and am very sorry that she has to endure. She said that if I apply to their program and get in, she will definitely be around to talk with me, and might even be around to do some research with me, if her health holds up. She was also extremely kind enough to go through my cover letter and suggest some improvements. She also told me a good resource to look up, and 2 more profs to write to at U Mich. All in all, I'm disappointed, but it could have been a lot worse. I just hope that she gets better. :(
