I - for reasons unknown - thought I'd try and tackle the Snupin mood theme challenge (or what ever it's called). Anyway, I decided to try and tackle "Touched" since I got an idea for art to it. And then I got this idea for a short fic for the art... I'm sorry! XD
Jokes aside, I thought I post the story and a larger - uncolored version of the pic (the "original") here on my LJ.
Remus was browsing the shelves looking for a book that could help him with his Transfiguration homework. It was hard always being one step ahead of everyone ells but it was a mutual agreement between him and his professors. That way he wouldn’t fall behind everyone ells during his …er… “time of the month”.
With a relived sight he found the book he was looking for. And through the gap the book left on the shelf he found something ells. No, someone ells. Although he was sitting with his back facing Remus direction - not that it mattered much since his face was hidden from view anyway - Remus immediately knew who it was.
Remus couldn’t quite figure out what the Slytherin was doing. Leaning over the table with his face hidden behind his arms. Was he sleeping? No, he seamed to still and quiet for it somehow - and he was hardly the one to sleep in crowded libraries. No matter how desolated this part was. Was he dead? Remus’ heart almost stopped in his chest. No. That couldn’t be right. It just couldn’t. Hurt? No, Remus thought, if that was the case even he would show it somehow…
The realization that the boy was crying was like a punch in the gut to Remus. He couldn’t help feeling bad about the boy. He knew what it was like being shunned and disliked, left alone and hated.
And just because he was ugly. It wasn’t fair, he couldn’t do anything about the way he looked - any more than Remus could do anything about being a werewolf. The only difference being that while Remus could hide the truth, the raven haired boy could not. One look was enough to condemn him in the eyes of his peers, at least Remus had the benefit of not having to have “werewolf” tattooed on his forehead…
Remus felt a lump rise in his throat at the thought of how the small boy was being treated. Especially by his best friends. He felt torn; could he make them stop tormenting the other boy with out risking losing them? Remus couldn’t stand the thought of being abandoned, being left alone again. He’d just started to taste the luxury that was really good friends… But shouldn’t the little Slytherin get to feel that to? Didn’t he deserve to know how great it was? Instead of crying in one of the more obscure corners of the library…
Remus didn’t know what possessed him. Before he knew what he was doing he had left the shelf he was hiding behind and was approaching the crying boy. Stopping slightly behind the boy he reached out and squeezed a thin shoulder.
“Well I like you, anyway.” He said with a warm smile. Why did I say that?! Remus though. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
He left before the other boy could pull himself together and hex his balls of. Although he forced himself to slow down so it wouldn’t look like he was fleeing the scene. Well, too much anyway, since he though it would sort of ruin the statement he was trying to make.
---
Severus watched the other boy retreat, tears glistering in his eyes. His mind was reeling. What had he just said?
He wiped his tears and cursed him self. For being week, emotional, born - for being stupid enough to think he could weep in the library without anyone noticing. He cursed some more. It must have been another one of their stupid jokes - yeah, it had to be. He’d never be allowed to live this one down. Yeah, he could here them now…
“Snivellus’ been sniveling in the library?”
“Gods no! They’ll be forced to sanitize the whole thing!”
“There’s probably snot the size of the Hogwarts express there now!”
“Ew…!”
“Ha, ha, ha!”
He wiped his tears. Stop crying, he thought angrily, stop it!
…But the next time he ran in to his tormentors the boy was with them, but they didn’t act like they’d been told anything. And the boy just stood there, looking embarrassed. Like he wanted to apologies for his friends behavior. And although Severus would rather take poison than admit it, he had been touched by what the boy had said that day.
