Here's hoping we can get through a week without another earthquake, or at least without the jolty kind waking me up when I really need the sleep.
My lucky brother saw Book of Mormon, which just opened at the Pantages this week! The tickets were set aside months ago, so he completely forgot that he was going until that morning. I'm mostly jealous because he got to see Gavin Creel (♥), but he brought me back some pins! He says it was very funny.
Caught the first episode of
Broadway or Bust on PBS last night, where students vie for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. I don't have a favorite (okay, maybe Brittany and the guy with the fun curly hair and the California girl whose name I don't know), but I do have a few least-favorites: the kid who interrupted Michael Feinstein needed to be disqualified immediately, and the girl who sang "Popular" as though she was a Cheno impersonator then sang "The Diva's Lament" as though she was Sara Ramirez impersonator needed to stop. But it was great hearing some kids sing songs I don't usually hear, like "This Is Not Over Yet" from Parade.
This is interesting:
Serious Eats. It taught me
how to make perfect thin and crispy french fries and
how to make an In-N-Out double double animal style at home.
US OPEN: What fabulous finals! For the ladies, they haven't had a three-setter since 1995! After the first set, I thought Serena had it in the bag, but then she kept making mistakes and Azarenka was playing solidly. I wouldn't have minded who won after all the great tennis. I felt the same way in the men's final. I wanted it to go to five sets, then I wouldn't care who won because I knew both had earned it. But good for Andy Murray for winning his first major! Interestingly, when they gave the stat that no man has come back from two sets down to win the US Open since Pancho Gonzales in 1949, my mom threw out the tidbit that he was an old friend of my grandmother's! Apparently they used to play for fun together at the old courts near the Coliseum. My mother's family and their friends have always been extremely into tennis and not just by watching it on TV.
College football was totally awesome this weekend, too. Lots of ranked teams falling to major underdogs. Love it!
So pleased to see RG3 performing well so far in the NFL! I'm really rooting for him and Andrew Luck and for Payton Manning to have good seasons.
Wait a sec. The How to Train Your Dragon TV show has already started airing on Cartoon Network? How did I miss this?
I ate five slices of pizza today. I should feel terribly guilty. But I don't.
