Of all the times to get a cold, it just has to be this week. Boo. This means I haven't seen Sherlock Holmes yet and probably won't see that or Mission: Impossible until next week! However shall I survive?
To make myself feel a bit better, I'm posting a few pics of this year's Christmas tree!
Our tree is actually smaller than in years past. Our glass finial tree topper usually ends up about an inch from the ceiling, but this year it's about 6 inches short. The trees at the lot this year either seemed really big or really small, so we erred on the side of slightly smaller. All that really matters to us is having a symmetrical tree, anyway.
I put on all the lights for the first time, since it would have been too precarious for my dad this year. I started out putting too many near the bottom, and was running out by the time I reached the top third, so I had to pull most of them off to do again. Then, when I had finally got them all situated perfectly, the second string from the top went out! /o\ So then I had to find where they started and and pull all those off to replace with our single back-up string. In the end, I strung two trees worth of lights. We're trying not to turn the lights on again until Christmas eve and Christmas day to make sure none of the other strings decide they want to go out, but next year, we're buying a whole new set of lights. I don't think we've bought a new string of lights in over 10 years, so it's about time.
Other than the nine sparkly Santas and the snowflakes, all the other ornaments (bells, balls, finials and snowmen) are glass. I've always loved the two Santas holding the trees and the sun, moon & star-shaped Santas best. :-)
As we get closer to Christmas, I thought I'd post some Christmas-related videos. I'll start with the glorious Jessye Norman singing "Silent Night."
