I had a good weekend. My two youngest first cousins graduated from grade school this weekend. All my cousins are poised and accomplished (and hilarious) young women and men, so I always love seeing them and the rest of the extended family. Though when I got home, I had to thank my parents for never sending me to Catholic school. Just about everyone in my father's family went to Catholic grade and high schools, and several attended Catholic universities, but it's just not my bag, man.
Then the Mavs beat the Heat to win the NBA Championship, and again I rejoiced. Stop making me almost like you, Mark Cuban.
And then there were the Tonys! Neil Patrick Harris did a great job hosting. I loved
his competitive duet with Hugh Jackman and the recap rap at the end. I was willing to lay money down that Lin-Manuel Miranda had a hand in writing it, and
I was right!
DanRad was working mighty hard in "Brotherhood of Man" (though no one could beat Lillias White's Miss Jones in
the last revival), and I'd never in a million years have thought that I'd hear South Park shout-outs on the Tony stage. I also really loved the voices of the Scottsboro Boys, but apparently
there was a protest outside the theatre about racism in the show? I wasn't familiar with the show beforehand, so I don't know the details, but that would be unfortunate (ah, here are a few links about this:

3; either way, I'm glad people are talking about it). Oh goodness, the Spider-Man jokes, and the song they chose was kind of a snoozefest.
Mark Rylance recited poetry again (
a word with the poet), LOL John Leguizamo, ::facepalms for Brooke Shields::, and
Frances McDormand wears a DENIM JACKET (am I the only one who finds that a bit disrespectful?). While I'm always amused by Anything Goes (for it's old schoolness and the John Barrowman connection), I also wonder if I'm the only person who has never "got" the Broadway community's obsession with Sutton Foster? So glad to see Bobby Cannavale getting some recognition (and he's dating Sutton, interestingly enough). Two Watchmen were in attendance: NPH made a bad horse joke, and the camera panned to Billy Crudup who was saying, "I don't get it," then cut to Patrick Wilson on stage, who was shaking his head at the joke's terribleness. OMG,
the concert cast of Company (with NPH, Stephen Colbert (
Sondheim himself asked Stephen to take the role!), Martha Plimpton, Jon Cryer, Christina Hendricks, Patti Lupone, Anika Noni Rose, and more! Craig Bierko wasn't there, though). Aww, go NLB! Major props to the puppetry company who won the Special Tony for their
War Horse. Just magnificent. I'm very curious about
Spielberg's theatrical version of the story coming out at the end of the year (with, among others, David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston), and oh how I wish I could have seen Game of Thrones' Kit Harington in the original production.
Noms for Justified, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Game of Thrones and my beloved, yet dearly-departed Terriers for the Television Critics Association Awards! I'm also really glad
the Critics Choice nominations added Fringe into the mix, as well.
On Friday, Mark Ruffalo made margaritas for his Avengers buddies.
Chris Evans in GQ. The article is hilarious (though unprofessional), and the pictures are pure LULZ (ETA: gah, the ONTD post with the pics is gone, so here's
