I'm sure you've all heard this many times today, but May the Fourth Be With You! My parents are particularly disappointed that no one is airing Star Wars today (they saw ANH on opening day, then eagerly brought some young relatives to see it the next day, then snuck into another theatre right after to see it again, and all told, have probably seen ( Read more... )

I can't say I saw ANH on opening day, but I did ride my bike a month or so later to shlep to the only theater in the State of New York (outside one other in Manhattan) that premiered it in June of '77- a Mann Cinema twin in suburban NYC, some years before said Mann slapped his name briefly on Grauman's Chinese (which I was in once, ironically for a revival of the original Star Trek film).

Eleanor told me about Jackie Cooper earlier today. I probably remember his work the most from the 13 MASH episodes he directed, but with the whole Osama business earlier this week, I'd been thinking of him more for the line from Supe III where he played Perry White for the third (and sadly not the last) time:

I ask you to kill Superman, and you're telling me you couldn't even do that one, simple thing.
