Labyrinth Fans Beware

Oct 09, 2004 10:25

More than once, I have noticed fans of Labyrinth quoting particular lines from the film. I'm speaking of the "you remind me of the babe..." exchange. It is quite clever, isn't it? But what you may not know, dear Labyrinth fans, is that this exchange was not written by the screenwriters for Labyrinth! It hails from 1947 to be exact, from the classic film, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Shirley Temple.

Richard (Cary Grant): Hey, you remind me of a man...
Susan (Shirley Temple): What man?
Richard: The man with the power.
Susan: What power?
Richard: The power of hoodoo.
Susan: Hoodoo?
Richard: You do.
Susan: I do what?
Richard: Remind me of a man! [ad infinitum]

So, there you have it. Labyrinth lines exposed! You learn something old everyday, huh? Anywho, I just wanted to give credit where credit was due. A few other lines I love from The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer include:

"Ready boot, let's scoot!"

"Reet!"

"I couldn't help overhearing. I had my ear to the door."

Richard: How'd you get in here?
Uncle Matt: Well, the door was closed, so I opened it and came right in.

And for anyone who has actually read my userinfo, "Mellow Greetings, Yookie-Dookie!"

classic film
