I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving (or Happy Fangs-Gibbon, as I like to say)! I adore holidays because of the awesome food and even awesomer company. My grandmother shares the latest news about the extended network of family friends, my aunt shares the latest news about the biz, her boyfriend does the same (though this year, he was off beach camping with his sons), my honorary aunt talks sports and education, and we all catch up on the latest in politics, our health, what movies we're looking forward to and actors we like (there was some fun squee over Cowboys & Aliens and Chris Pine and Tom Hardy and Ken Watanabe), TV shows we're watching (my aunt has become such a fangirl of BSG, when she spotted Eddie Olmos about town last week, she has to restrain herself from flailing at him), and laugh so we don't cry about our latest experiences with racism.
While talking about TV shows, my mom told my aunt about our love for Terriers and it turns out Donal Logue and his sister are old friends of hers. In fact, years and years ago, my aunt and a group of friends used to put on old timey radio plays at this little coffee shop in Studio City, and he sometimes attended. They were past my usual bedtime, so I was always tired and thus my memory is hazy about things other than the giant muffin I would eat and that I liked the little mystery plots for the plays, but after thinking about it, I do remember Donal as That Actor Guy. And after realizing this, I'm going to be even more broken-hearted if/when Terriers is cancelled. :-\
This year's spread was wonderful. We had turkey, a VAT of homemade gravy, corn casserole, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, a Honeybaked ham, two types of greens, candied yams, cornbread, whole wheat or Hawaiian rolls, two types of cranberry sauce, onion dip & ranch dip with chips or cherry tomatoes, ice cream sundaes, sweet potato pie, and four pies from Marie Callender's: French apple pie, cherry pie, blueberry pie, & double cream lemon pie. Over the course of the day I was only able to eat one plate with turkey, mashed potatoes, corn casserole and stuffing all swimming in gravy, one Hawaiian roll, and one small slice each of sweet potato and lemon cream pie. But no worries, since we have plenty of leftovers, and I can mix and match dishes for the next week or so. \o/
We also watched a lot of fun things together. Caught parts of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning while cooking (Kanye on a float made me LOL), then some football, then Kung Fu Panda, then more football and The Godfather Part II, then Snow White and Beauty & the Beast (with a few sing-along moments and hilarious color commentary throughout), some basketball, and some Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, before ending the evening with the amazing
Sondheim! A Birthday Concert on Great Performances. Highlights: Audra McDonald and Marin Mazzie being flawless as always, the stellar reunion of Chip Zien & Joanna Gleason from Into the Woods to sing "It Takes Two" (I had such a gleeful smile on my face the entire time), Mandy Patinkin's quintessential "Finishing the Hat," my favorite two Sweeney Todds
George Hearn & Michael Cerveris singing "Pretty Women," and
Patti Lupone performing "A Little Priest" with her two Sweeneys (pics from Michael Cerveris'
Facebook). ::swoons:: It really does not get any better than that. Michael Cerveris is like a modern day Yul Brynner, y/y?
Late Night writer Bashir Salahuddin, dressed as Tummi Gummi, sings an earnest rendition of the Gummi Bears theme song on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon! (Sorry, that's a Hulu vid, so might not be available outside the U.S.) I used to loooooooove Gummi Bears. I even already had a tag on Delicious for Gummi Bears, which was convenient.
DANIEL RADCLIFFE IS HARRY POTTER! I had no idea Harry Potter was just playing a characer named Daniel Radcliffe.
Here's a
post-season 1 interview with Justified creator Graham Yost, just posted today at HitFix.
Jeremy Renner and the Mission: Impossible franchise.
This was exactly what I was hoping for. Please come true!
