MY DARLINGS I HAVE SEEN INCEPTION AND IT WAS VERY EXCITING. I could tell right away that they had the costume designer from O11. Leo and Juno remain thoroughly uninteresting to me, but that's okay because there were enough other awesome things to occupy my interest. Other Awesome Things: ACTION!JGL! HANDSOME BOB BEING OH SO HANDSOME! EAMES/ARTHUR OTP! CILLIAN AND HIS ~FACE~! EPIC KEN WATANABE! DILEEP RAO IS AS AWESOME AS HIS NAME! MARION IS A GODDESS! DELICIOUS ONE AND ALL. Now I can finally enjoy all the fic I have bookmarked. They were filming something right next to the theatre. They had a fake cafe set up, though everyone was hanging around craft services for their lunch break as we walked by.
This evening, PBS aired the Gershwin Prize concert for Paul McCartney, and it was lovely. I can't think of "Ebony & Ivory" now without picturing
Shawn & Gus and cracking up, though. ::facepalm:: But I loooooved Corinne Bailey Rae & Herbie Hancock's rendition of "Blackbird." They are amazing artists on their own, and together they're just magical. I can't find video of their performance online, so I'll link you to their
cover of Joni Mitchell's "River." What is up with Maybelline using the Magnum P.I. theme song for their mascara commercials? I feel like using that music for anything other than Magnum is just wrong.
Disney filmmakers talk about the world they created for Tangled.
Pacey-Con was Joshua Jackson's project for Funny or Die!
Oh wow, look at
The Goonies 25th Anniversary Edition box set. It comes with a board game! :-D
Common has joined AMC's Hell on Wheels about the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. After reading that, my interest went up. However, after reading
about the other leads, my interest went down into the toilet.
There's a big shake-up going on at ABC.
Glee guest-starring news. Ages ago, I had heard this person was going to show up in the first season, but I guess they pushed it back for whatever reason.
I don't know if I'll be able to hang on until the end of Pillars of the Earth. It's not awful, but I'm just not enjoying the experience and looking at the blurbs for future episodes isn't exciting me, which is saddening because I love Eddie Redmayne, Matthew Macfadyen, Hayley Atwell (who will be the female lead in Captain America), Tony Curran and Rufus Sewell. And I kinda can't stop looking at David Oakes (who will soon co-star in The Borgias) even though his character is horrible and I want him to die.
All the Eliot/Hardison action in Leverage made this week's episode. It was like Deliverance/The Defiant Ones! I also loved Parker's worried face when she realized her boys were in trouble. But what a waste of Clancy Brown! He can be such a menacing villain, but they didn't use him to his potential at all. And my eyes nearly rolled up in the back of my head when their client allowed that fake IRS guy waltz into her house in the middle of the night.
Wow, Rizzoli & Isles just isn't a great show. At exactly 37 minutes into the episode, I whined out loud, "This show is lasting FOREVER," and my mom said, "OMG thank you for saying that because I feel the exact same way," and she contemplated going to bed instead of watching the rest of the ep. It's such a shame because I adore Bruce McGill and I wanted awesome Rizzoli & Isles BFFness and/or femslashy subtext, but I'm not getting enough of either. Or at least not enough outside the talking about men parts. And the dialogue is sometimes just lame, especially Rizzoli's. Why do they keep going on and on about how Donnie Wahlberg's character treated Rizzoli in grade school?! And why do Rizzoli's parents keep showing up at the station? What was up with the silly music playing after every "humorous" moment? Why am I continually unable to buy Angie Harmon as Rizzoli? Is she just not that good of an actress? And this week's plot and Rizzoli's responses had me cringing. Did Rizzoli seriously not know that the Catholic Church practiced exorcisms? While I'm glad it wasn't the mom's church, this being the second show in one night where the wife did it, I'd had about enough. I'm so glad you got out while you could, Donnie Wahlberg, and get to co-star in your own show this fall instead. You know what would make this show more enjoyable for me? Snappier writing, re-casting Rizzoli, more R&I BFFness with less men talk, and stronger teamwork between Rizzoli, Isles, Korsak and Frost. And can her mom please stop trying to find her a man to take care of her?
While R&I hasn't been improving, Covert Affairs actually has! It's still not awesome, but I am enjoying the show more now. It was a shame that Annie couldn't take down the bad guys herself in this one, but they don't seem to want Annie to shoot people point blank (yet) on this show and those two definitely needed to be taken down. And she did have the kid to look after. Though I made a o_O face when Julia mourned the bad guy RIGHT AFTER HE TRIED TO KILL HER and that she didn't rip that necklace off as soon as she found out who it actually belonged to. Because eww. Two completely shallow observations: I would still love Annie's sister's house for my own, and Sendhil looked extremely attractive in that blue suit.
Did anyone see the pilot of Rubicon? They aired it a few weeks ago, but I missed it, so I was glad they gave us another chance to catch up after the Mad Men premiere on Sunday. It stars James Badge Dale from The Pacific, and so far I am intrigued.
And speaking of Mad Men, welcome back, you messed up people!
JOAN HAS AN OFFICE. BEST THING ABOUT THE NEW SEASON AFAIK. And as always, NEEDS MOAR JOAN. Has your husband hopefully died yet? But I like the new Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce offices, in general. Very bright. Also glad Don poached his old secretary.
I liked how easily Peggy and Pete are working together now. In fact, since the big shake-up at the end of last season, it's nice to feel the "we're all in this together" sort of mentality within the firm (for now). New guy is eh, but I like the way Peggy gets to boss him around.
Sally is so big! They all grow up so fast. ::tear:: And wow, I didn't think I could dislike Betty any more, but I now do! Forcing food into your child's mouth at the table in front of everyone was making an even bigger spectacle than it would have been otherwise. She is just as much of a petulant child as Sally. I understand that she's trying to get back at Don and it's not like he doesn't deserve a bit of torture (he certainly seems to agree, if those slaps he requested from the woman he hired were any indication) but it doesn't make her look any better than him. And the kids suffer, which is not okay.
LOVED the bookends of Don's interviews, especially the way he played the WSJ interview.
I maintain that Unnatural History is my favorite new show this summer. This week's episode was adorbs.
After you have seen this week's episode of Psych, make sure to
GO HERE AND LOL.
