The election for the role of user representative on the LJ Advisory Board is getting ugly. There's mudslinging going on on both sides, and it's not pretty. The consensus among just about everyone in fandom is "Anyone but Jameth." However you
VOTE, you have until Thursday to make your decision. Platforms and other stuff are
here. If you've voted already and would like to change your vote, go
here. Who knows how much clout a user representative will have on the board, but it's better to be safe than sorry, right?
Another sort of poll is going on over at
misspamela's.
The Fandom Hot 20! Nominations have been taken, and now it's time to vote for your top 20 hottest fictional characters. Vote for Tony DiNozzo! Vote for Ronon Dex! Vote for Ezra Standish! Vote for Martha Jones!
So, I watched the first part of The Andromeda Strain miniseries on A&E. It's just not very good. It's also kind of boring. I don't know who wrote the screenplay, but whoever they are, they need a smack upside the head. Aren't you supposed to read lines to yourself out loud to be able to tell whether a person would actually sound ridiculous saying what you just wrote? Some lines were just poorly written, others just didn't sound like anything a normal person would actually say out loud. They were also about as subtle as a sledgehammer at times. I don't find Benjamin Bratt at all believable as Jeremy Stone. I've read the book, I enjoyed the book, I've seen the original film, I loved the original film. I don't see why they needed to do all this again, and add in unnecessary things to boot. And why did they stretch it out to 4 hours? The only redeeming factor was that I was able to slash Rick Schroeder's character (who I also found unbelievable) with Daniel Dae Kim's (who gets stuck with the most unrealistic lines) in my mind. And oh dear, looking at spoilers, apparently things only go downhill from here. ::sigh::
Sydney Pollack has passed away. :-( He was a wonderful director, producer and a good actor, as well. I didn't even know he was unwell. One of my very favorite films is Tootsie, which Pollack directed as well as played Dustin Hoffman's agent. Here's an amusing scene with the two of them in the film ("I was a stand-up tomato!"):
