Went to Disneyland today. Huzzah! Will go on and on about this tomorrow hopefully because there were a few amusing happenings (I SAW FIGURE SKATER MICHELLE KWAN, ZOMG!!). My brain is so mush and my feet are so sore that after reading the people's comments on Heroes I chose not to watch the episode and allow TPTB to manipulate my emotions. ( Read more... )

Alan Rickman. OMG. Um. I mean, uh. Yeah.

I honestly don't know what to make of the new Sweeney Todd movie. I love the musical and I should love the direction (is Tim Burton cool or what?) but the clips I've seen have been so... I don't know, static? It doesn't help I haven't liked the singing voices of any of the major players -- Mr. Rickman excluded. But I'll be there, probably opening night, because... well, Sweeney.

(Also: OMG I AM SO WATCHING L&O NOW. ♥ ♥ ♥)

And a tentative "Yaaaaaaaay!" for State of Play, even if I'm not sure how I'm going to get through Cal's romancing anyone without throwing stuff at the screen (in the first one, I avoided that by muttering "David Morrissey is really pretty. Pay Simm no heed." over and over and over -- this time, no excuse).

I feel the same way about Sweeney. The performances are very, hmm, understated. As with SoP, I'm trying to reserve judgment since we haven't seen the whole product, but from what I've seen of "A Little Priest," for instance, it's really different from the very THEATRICAAAAL! performances we usually see of that song. Helena's voice I find to be fair (this may be because I was expecting far worse ;-)), though not particularly expressive, and Johnny's I've grown to accept. I am tickled by Borat, though. And it's SWEENEY TODD and it's NEW and it's TIM BURTON and it has ALAN RICKMAN. I can't help it! And it's my mom's favorite musical EVAR, so of course we're seeing it no matter what. ;-)

The funny thing is, the only reason I watched that short-lived show Kidnapped was for those same two new L&O cast members!

Here's hoping they put the romance on the back burner in SoP because...just...no. I'd rather they play up Cal and Stephen's friendship and trust and all the consequences of the situation on that, etc. Much more juicy, IMHO.

And I love the title of their article:
Mystery Men
CSI's Gary Dourdan and George Eads rap about fame, Warrick's downward spiral and their "healthy man love."

And George also says, "I don't wanna borrow money from him or sleep with him, so he's safe with me." ::laughs:: Uh-huh. I'm glad you make him feel safe, George. ;-) They're such BFFs.

They're too cute for words. Seriously, it makes me so sad they don't get a chance to make as many appearances or give as many interviews as others, like the Heroes cast.

I so agree! We even see people who play slightly secondary characters like Jimmy Jean-Louis and James Kyson Lee all over the place, but we hardly ever hear anything from the lab techs (which is, well, a crime). And we get so much behind-the-scenes fun with Beeman's blog and Adrian's YouTube, but well, nothing from CSI. I get that it's partly because the show has been on so long (so it's not new and shiny and have young stars and starlets) and it's procedural, and perhaps because the cast may be a bit more private and low-key. Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see more of them around, though. ;-)

I'm really tickled by the voices I've seen here. Yes, Johnny Depp is playing a singing Jack Sparrow. That's disappointing. But he looks so good doing it, so like you say, I've accepted it and expect the eyes to be rolling.

I have chills watching this. The children's voices are wonderful. Hearing my boyfriend Alan Rickman singing voice was kind of a mixed experience. Good at times, bad at times. The b-b-bums were really cute.

I've never seen Sweeney Todd, never been interested. Not to say that it's not interesting. Just been kind of sheltered in ways of musicals. ALW's stuff, Les Miz, and Saigon are my only musical experiences. Is this Sondheim?

::giggles:: I hope you and your boyfriend are very happy together. ;-)

The younger characters do sound really great! The little boy, Tobias, is particularly good, and I'm glad they seem to have found young people with real singing experience to balance out the stars-who-can-sometimes-try-to-sing. ;-)

Oh yes, this is Sondheim, who is a musical god! His lyrics are so complex and clever. I mean, he's been writing lyrics since West Side Story and Gypsy. Sweeney Todd, I think is his best, but Into the Woods is fabulous, too.

I've always thought Sondheim to have incredibly complex melodies, Sweeney Todd being at the TOP of that list. It takes effort to listen to his work, whereas ALW kind of puts you to sleep as you finish off lines you've never heard both in lyric and tune. I found that was ESPECIALLY true for Tell Me on a Sunday (which reminds me of that pop song 'Yellow' and caused me to refuse to listen to that band, Coldplay, was it? Then I found out that they were good, lol. I'm always so biased! and picky!).

I'm looking forward to this movie! but nervous about the musical aspect of it. Something completely different for Burton, IMO, even though Nightmare and Corpse Bride were musicals.
