It gives his writing a child like image so it fits with his choice of topic. If he chose to make his sentences more complicated then the given feeling would not be that of a child.
3) For what rhetorical purpose does Hughes use dialogue? Try restating one or two passages of dialogue as straight narrative. How does your change affect the impact?
4) How does Hughes use biblical imagery in this passage? Is he being ironic? Explain.
5) Why is the purpose of the final long- cumulative- sentence? Could it have been broken up into two shorter sentences, yet retain the same effect?
