benizakura because she deserves something to make her day just that bit more special! Well, to be honest: I fail at making things special, so I hope she’ll settle for this~? Happy Birthday, Shini!
They were studying the dying will flame, trying to unravel its secrets. Iemitsu had proposed a few days ago that they should bring in a kid, someone they could use as something of a test subject. It wasn’t like what they were trying to figure out wouldn’t be in a controlled environment, there would be no possibility of the kid getting hurt - well, unless the kid was pathetic, but then he deserved to get hurt if that was the case. Sometimes getting hurt could make the weak strong by showing them what they were doing wrong. Oregano and Lal had been a bit hesitant about that proposal, not wishing for a some kid to disrupt the progress they had already made, but they had conceded defeat since Iemitsu was more or less their superior and speaking against him was often ill-received. To be honest, it just went in one ear and out the other when it came to that particular Sawada.
“So we’re bringin’ the kiddy in tomorrow, you guys gonna play nice, right?” Iemitsu crossed his arms to look more superior and coming as more of a dork than anything. “Is papa bear understood?” Lal snorted and turned her head away before she commented and Oregano followed her example lest all hell broke loose. Turmeric just stood off to one side, an eyebrow quirked for good measure. And Iemitsu decided that was good enough agreement as any. “Now then, have you all prepared the welcoming committee?”
Oregano held up ribbons and streamers and whatnot half-heartedly, Turmeric waved about the party favors, and Lal just gave Iemitsu a blank look to convey that she hadn’t bothered doing the required shopping the day before the party. There really was no need for this party, after all - n her eyes, anyway. The kid was just going to be an apprentice and a test subject for their new pill form of the dying will flame. Nothing more. Why was Iemitsu trying to go out of his way to make the kid feel ‘at home’? She would never understand her boss, it would seem.
“All right!” Iemitsu ignored Lal for the time being. “Let’s get things set up and ready to go then, gang!”

The day of the new arrival’s appearance dawned eerily quiet. Lal wasn’t quite sure if that was a good or bad thing. Taking into account this was Iemitsu that was being eerily quiet, she figured it was a bad thing. When that man tended to escape into the strange inner workings of his mind - that was a time to start fearing for one’s own life. He didn’t start acting his usual goof ball self until the door bell rang and Turmeric went to welcome the guest. Whatever had been plaguing his short attention span was obviously gone now and he was back to his good old self. Although, it wasn’t quite good, but it was old - so she had gotten that part right at least.
The kid was led into the room by Turmeric in no time and Lal sized the kid up, wondering what was so special about him and if he would make a good addition to their group, to the CEDEF association. Oregano arrived a few minutes later and looked just as displeased with the runt before them. But, leave it to Iemitsu to distract away from a heavy atmosphere by tossing out a random, though straight to the point, question.
“What’s your name, kiddo?” Tentatively the boy made eye contact with their boss, and immediately eyes were dropped back to the floor. “Come on, kiddo, no one’s gonna bite’cha.”
“B-Basil, sir.”
“Cute!” exclaimed Iemitsu earnestly, just proving to startle the boy further. “Welcome to the family, Basil!”
Lal had a feeling Basil didn’t know how to take their boss, either. Especially when streamers fell down atop his head, an explosion of party favors sounded in the room over, and just general chaos and havoc and hell broke loose that day he first arrived. But somehow, she knew both of them wouldn’t have it any other way.
