In hopes that every one is as easily amused as I am...

This entry does not exist to tell you about how much fun I had with Luther this weekend, my opinion of the third Spiderman movie, my interview for a scholarship, the lockdown at my school or the mucus-y sickness I have been battling the past few days.

It is not even here to describe how Jay made me the happiest person in the world by waking me up with the sound of my sister’s voice… And how awesome it was to talk to her… And how badly I want to go to Japan, and how it is looking more realistic with scholarship and job prospects…

Now that I have not discussed any of those things, I will provide you with a quote. I am reading a book of Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales… I started with a cushy, censored version that ruined all the stories. Seriously, in “The Nightingale”, the emperor says (no kidding, this is a quote) “I will hear the nightingale, and I will hear her tonight! If she fails to appear, immediately after supper every courtier shall be punched in the stomach.” Now, apparently this is truly awful, because the freak out. After all, “they didn’t fancy the idea of being punched in the stomach directly after supper.” Wow. Children’s stories rock.

Anyways… We all know that the original Little Mermaid is a lot more morbid than Disney made it out to be. I mean, it’s not as bad as it sounds, even though the prince she lost everything for marries someone else and she ends up turning into sea foam… Well.. Actually, yeah, it is kind of as bad as it sounds. Anywho, the part I want to quote is from when the sisters come to save her after the prince is married… This is what they say to try to convince her to kill her one true love, give up her chance at an immortal soul and save herself:

“We gave it to the witch so she would help us and you wouldn’t have to die tonight. She gave us a knife. Here it is! See how sharp it is? Before the sun comes up, you must stab the prince in the heart. When his warm blood drips on your feet, they’ll grow together into a fish tail and you’ll be a mermaid again and can come back into the water with us and live out your three hundred years until you turn into dead, salty sea foam. Hurry!”

Now doesn’t that sound irresistible?
