Lance Armstrong has this drink out that is supposed to make you more energetic throughout the day. He's been heavily endorsing this product, saying he uses it everyday...and he "had cancer"... etc blah blah, but it's not based on the even the slightest bit of scientific evidence that it actually works, so I'm vetoing all things Lance Armstrong ( Read more... )

i've heard of the FRS too, they tell cancer patients to drink it. the drink contains quercetin, which is naturally found in onions and apple skins. it's been knowns to be a good antioxidant and immunity booster. i take quercetin pills and omega 3's for my allergies. it actually does help your energy levels and helps your brain functions too.

"it's been knowns to be a good antioxidant and immunity booster."

By who? I want the scientific studies godddamnit! That shit is expensive. Vitamins have even been going under attack these days because of the lack of scientific data. My doc says, "Do you want expensive piss?!!!"

Hence why the bitch that made Airborne (which is a high-priced vitamin) is being sued. There's just to enough evidence that ANY natural supplement claims to help the body is some way....and if it is...they are small or shitty studies cuz no one wants to fund those types of studies.

The only shit I've seen in the media is the lack of omega 3s in the american diet and depression link. Anyway...maybe I'll try quercetin after all but I have to be careful with natural or herbal shit cuz they actually make the levels of the meds in my bloodstream low which can be dangerous. OMG I have energy today if I wrote all that!

well yeah, that's something to consider cos you're on a cocktail that might get thrown off. but here's the thing: taking vitamins doesn't do shit for you if you still have an unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits. and people don't know that if you swallow your vitamins during or after meal times, you absorb the nutrients better.

ps, all the stuff about quercetin and what it does is in medical and science books! go to a medical library or ask a dietician and they'll break it down for you.
pps, i want to be a dietician some day!

"However, because supplements may have side effects or interact with medications, they should be taken only under the supervision of a knowledgeable healthcare provider."

"More research is needed..."

That study is just saying eat more berries and veggies.
Did you know extracting a vitamin or flavonoid form it's natural source and putting it in the body can be like...not good and stuff. (Vitamin A!!!!) I think it's better to eat the actually berry or veggie because all the phytochecmical and vitamins interact with each other in a way that makes them more bioavailable to the body.

You go dietician!

supplements can't take the place of a balanced, healthy diet! it's amazing, all you need to do is cut out saturated fats and just eat more fruits and veggies. that's it!

When I go to a website that tells me I'm going to die cu of my condition...at first I was like, "OMG this sucks I'm so sad...*has panic attack*...but studies have flaws in them...and sometimes can be total PR or marketing ploys.
