Hooray, the Emmy Awards are tonight, and Sherlock is nominated in a lot of categories-more heavy-hitting awards this time around, as opposed to last time, when the show was nominated for Writing for a Miniseries, Single-Camera Picture Editing, Special Visual Effects, and Music for a Miniseries. This is a big deal because it means more publicity in America, which I see as a good thing!
Tonight, though, in the Miniseries category, it’s up for:
- Best Miniseries
- Best Lead Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch (!!!)
- Best Supporting Actor: Martin Freeman (!!!)
- Best Director: Paul McGuigan
- Best Writing: Steven Moffat
Craft awards (sadly, Sherlock did not win these):
- Best Art Direction
- Best Casting (well, duh!)
- Best Cinematography
- Best Costumes (is there special mention of The Coat?)
- Best Single-Camera Picture Editing (I don’t even know what this is)
- Best Musical Composition (yay!)
- Best Sound Editing
- Best Sound Mixing (I don’t know the difference between this and Sound Editing)
The full nominations list is
here. It seems like only the first episode of Season 2 (A Scandal in Belgravia) is up for awards, which greatly confuses me. Anybody know why this is? But we’ll take what we can get, I suppose.
EDIT: Mystery solved;
thanks, Sherlockology. Sherlock doesn’t have enough episodes to qualify for a Drama, but since it’s returning, it can’t qualify as a straight-up Miniseries. (Ugh, this is so dumb.) So they basically have to treat it as a TV movie.
EDIT 2: This is somewhat off-topic, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE
this new poster for The Hobbit with an intensely sexy Martin Freeman in the title role. I am so excited for this movie, you guys. I had to take little breaks while watching the trailer because my squeeing was drowning out the dialogue.
Good luck, everybody, and Benedict in particular! :DDD
EDIT 3: Post-Emmys commiseration. Ugh, well, that didn’t go well (
video here). No awards for us tonight (or for Luther, actually, sadface). But that’s okay, at least there were some good clips, and Benedict looked absolutely gorgeous onscreen. And he and Martin were reunited! :)
