So anyway, saw Super 8 on Friday. It was fun! I mean it's not the super amazing super blockbuster super hit everyone expected, and that's okay. It really hearkens back to some classic Spielberg with modern effects.

No spoilers, but a few things I want to point out:

I don't know if it's the movie or the theater we went to, but be warned that this movie is loud. Every time something crashed and banged, it was pretty deafening. Surviving the whole train crash sequence with your eardrums intact is a challenge.

On the other hand, it adds to the starts and jumps you'll have when something happens unexpectedly in the middle of a scene. Very fun, but again, the sound just needs toned down a bit.

The kids. I love these kids. They were really, really well-written, because they sounded like actual kids. Sometimes they're assholes; sometimes they're ridiculously single-minded; sometimes they can't appreciate the seriousness of a situation; sometimes they bicker about love lives. They're middleschoolers. It's pretty great, man. I could really relate to them. (Or as I said to a buddy beside me, 'they're such assholes, just likes us!' But really they're great, don't read too much into my asshole comment.)

It's really funny. And not distractingly so.

And stay for the credits. You will not be disappointed. Although as far as I can tell, there is nothing after the credits nor hidden, no backwards audio that I am aware of or anything Abrams-y like that. But what's shown during the credits is just fab.

Now, movie-wise, Ari swears she's going to get me to see X-Men: First Class. Not because we give a damn about the X-Men (I sure don't), but because she was so infatuated with the gay that she swears I'll enjoy it and then get sucked into erik/charles or fassavoy or whatever.

The next movie coming out on my list of MUST SEE is TF3. You bet your ass we're going to the midnight show to that shit. Here, Michael Bay, have all my money. All of it.
