blog: broke + vegetarian = not eating

1. It's a two-for-one special over at Frenemy Cosplay. This week's cosplay linkspam is up, but you should really go read 's post-mortem on her amazing Dr. Orpheus costume, which received a hug of blessing from Mr. Jackson Publick himself.

2. Went to a munch last night. Tons of people, talked to a few. Another group is hosting a barbeque and play party in a few weeks. Haven't decided if I'm going to go.

3. So Cowboys & Aliens was a disappointment. I mean, it was moderately entertaining. Stuff blew up, the actors were good, I laughed a few times. But... meh. I feel like there's a lot in the concept that they just didn't do anything with. I love aliens. I love westerns. I love space westerns. So why was this movie so boring?

3a. The first season of Game of Thrones, on the other hand....
What an intense, gorgeous, tactile show. I found myself saying "holy crap" at least once every episode. And the characters! Oh my god the characters! There are so many stories going on, and I'm absolutely enthralled by all of them. The characters we're supposed to hate are so deliciously nasty, and all the one's we're meant to like are just glorious. There are different sides of different conflicts, but there aren't any "good guys" or "bad guys". (Except maybe the Lannisters. But not Tyrion, because Tyrion is made of win.) I can't even say "I especially love so and so", because I just want to flail over all of them. Daenerys Targaryen has been one of the most interesting to watch, seeing her transform from a fragile, timid girl to a fierce queen with (apparently) dragon powers. (Descriptions of elements in fantasy stories are always lol.) And every member of the Stark family is wonderfully badass in their own way. Even Sansa, who is sort of... tepid, is in really interesting situation, and I really want to see her character develop more.

Of course, the list of things I want to see is quite long and involved and includes, but is not limited to, Robb becoming the best king ever and BFFs with Tyrion, who would be King's Hand, obvs. And Arya would take over Winterfell because goddamnit she does not need to get married and be some asshole's "lady". And Jon needs to kill some monsters and generally carry on being pretty and angsty. And dragons. Always more dragons.

Not exactly a thought-provoking review, but that's what you get when I'm deprived of nerdy company. Tell me someone else is watching this so I'm not just squealing aimlessly into the interwebs.

4. I wore gloves while filing at work to avoid paper cuts and torn cuticles. Then I came home and scraped my hand while doing dishes.
