So we went out for breakfast this morning to celebrate
helioshyperion's birthday, then, because it was a beautiful day, FC, Missouri, the Dog, and I went out to the lake.
Yes, this is a story.
Now, Missouri's jeep is reasonably badass and usually doesn't have much trouble around that area. But see there's this creek that cuts in from the lake, and... well.... In her defense, it really didn't look all that deep. Except that, obviously, it was, and the back half of the jeep wound up sitting underwater. I had to climb out through the front, because opening the back door would have flooded the cab. Then, in the process of getting back across the creek, I, too, found the creek to be much deeper than it looked and wound up with mud up to my knees. Fun times.
Thankfully, a very nice man with a much better jeep helped pull us out of the water. Missouri was mortified, FC and I thought the whole thing was funny as hell, and the dog was just happy to be running around. Later, we were somewhat gratified to see somebody on a four-wheeler also get stuck.
The plan to bask in the sun and read didn't quite work out, though, because the wind was blowing so hard, we kept getting blasted with sand. So we left after about an hour.
What can I say? A dog and a kite make for compelling subject matter.
In other news,
io9 has two good posts up, today.
"Why it's a good thing that we read political meanings into Star Trek", which is relevant to my interests, and
"I Demand More Zombie-Killing Female Role Modesl", which should be relevant to everyone's interests.
Also, there's a
new post up on
Frenemy Cosplay, responding to the ubiquitous
"There's no such thing as good Firefly cosplay" post.
