Lincoln and Laramie

Staying in Salt Lake City now if you can believe it. Had an 8 hour drive today which was tiring - but I had some books on tape that kept me going. There was some beautiful country side... especially going through the Rockies. Will tell you about this awesome book I am listening to in the next post - when I get more of a chance to digest it. Completely blowing me away. (Figured out the live journal cut tags by the way!)

Took this pic yesterday when I was in Alamosa. It's supposedly one of the poorest counties in the nation. I am told there are 3rd world conditions in neighborhoods there. Here was a dirt road I rested at off a hwy. Most of the houses and trailers WERE seriously run down. It was difficult to take in at times.

Drove up to Denver last night and passed through this incredibly cool town. They have preserved a lot of the buildings dating back in the late 1800s. Wish I remembered the name of the town! Stopped by a vegan sandwich shop. Loved this church.

And this house. Very gingerbread. :)

And then I went through Wyoming to Salt Lake City on the 80. It is a historic hwy. The first one to connect the nation together I believe. It originally went from San Fran to New York. Called the Lincoln Hwy. Thought this memorial was just awesome. His eyes look over the sunset everyday. Lincoln affects me quite a bit. There was a quote of his there - "We must think anew, We must ACT anew." Very very simple, but it reverberates. He lived by that and died by it.

Also drove through Laramie on my way through Wyoming...
