PERSONALITY:

Summing Norio up takes three words: Reckless, dumb and naive.

Norio is almost a textbook example of a person living on the edge- if only because he doesn't understand what it means to be more careful or to think before acting. He acts without thinking 90% of the time because it's stupid to put off things that you can do today...but whether he's doing the right thing like studying or kicking cans is an entirely different matter. If said thing looks interesting, he's all up for it!

This same quality carries itself into his daily conversations. Although he tries to maintain some tact, he doesn't really get why people have to deal with lies and be so polite to each other while discussing mundane things like the weather. So he tries to make things more interesting! Except, he's more likely than not to say something like "Hey there, you look rather awful today!"

As if this wasn't bad enough, Norio is...kind of stupid. It takes him time to learn the ways of people so that he knows how not to offend them, most references to culture just fly by him, he has to study really hard just to get by and most things just dazzle him more than the dry books he has to read for school.

Because of this, he's not really good at defending himself when he does get into trouble. About the best defense he has is...wait for it. It's "Well (object) happened to be there/(person) happened to be there when I kicked (object)!" As ineffective as it is, Norio actually manages to win sometimes if only because people get the idea that he'll point out things until sunset if
they don't agree, which sadly doesn't help him to become much better.

He's also rather impressionable! Tell him that you saw something that was marginally believable and you might just get him to believe it, even if it was something like "Hey, did you know that you can see fireflies at night if you go to the riverbank? Most people would question something like this, but Norio? Nope, just a simple "Hey, that's cool! Want to come and watch with me?"

For all of his immediate shortcomings, Norio makes up for it by having some very good qualities. He may not be the best in anything, but he's willing to make up for it by dedicating a lot of time to making himself better in it if he's convinced that it's worth the effort! His stubborness serves as a good asset because he just won't give up until he's made at least some progress in
that goal.

He's also a nice and friendly guy, really! Though he can get a bit irritating at times because of his distracting and somewhat childish attitude, he's almost always happy to help people out, even more so if they're people he considers to be his friend. There's little that he won't do to help out a troubled person, even if his methods or the situation itself may be dubious. When he really
tries his best, he can think of new ways to solve things and even if he can't, he'll still be there to cheer you up.

Underneath all of this, Norio truly feels embarrassed that he's caused so much problems for his parents and he really does want to improve himself. That's why he'll get upset and depressed if people refuse to forgive him or if he thinks he did something that just can't be fixed.

BACKGROUND: Norio Sasaki was born as the only child of Kojima and Emiko Sasaki, both lawyers. Though they were well-to-do and they tried their best to pamper their son, Norio's parents couldn't lavish as much attention on him as they'd like, so they tried to compensate by getting the best education for him.

Unfortunately, they discovered early on that their son was just not much of an academic type. Instead of sitting patiently and copying whatever the teacher said, he preferred to look outside, pester the teacher to let him see the birds and the list would go on and on. He had little patience for dry and musty words, preferring to experiment, get into accidents and then laugh about it.

Perhaps it would have been for the best if he had been allowed to play in this way, but Norio's parents had one other concern: They were both from strict families, and it wouldn't do for them to have such a boisterous and academically poor child. To add to their problems, Norio was starting to mix in with the other people in the school who liked fun as much as him- fun that they couldn't approve of. As a result, Norio was forced to read more and play less, something which made him miserable quickly.

Even that only lasted until he was twelve. Norio's parents didn't trust caretakers so both parents would take care of him whenever they could, but they gradually became so overloaded with work that it was tiring to keep up with his demands. It meant two things: One, that he'd need to get his attention elsewhere and two, that his parents decided that maybe he needed to learn a thing or two by himself.

It could have been Norio's chance to prove his worth, but a kid like him could only be deprived of fun for so long before a craving kicked in. Although he had a mixture of good and bad friends, he was more often influenced by the kids who wanted to skip classes to do fun things like loitering at the mall. Some of his other friends advised him against this and he almost agreed with them after a while, but when he asked his other friends about it, they said that he didn't
really need to bother with that kind of thing since his parents were rich.

That was the path he took. Though he never did anything worse than a bit of vandalism, all of the skipped classes eventually led up to him failing his classes. A chance remark by one of his mother's friends was all it took for his parents to find out about what Norio was actually doing behind their backs and the result was not pretty. Both of Norio's parents decided to work less so that they could watch him properly, which would have been nice if they weren't so restrictive.

Eventually, Norio did something that was smart (or not) by his standards...He asked his parents if he could move to a countryside and learn how to be a better person from the (Obviously honest and kind) people there! Though they were extremely skeptical of this, he did manage to improve his grades again and keep a mostly good record in the time when they were watching him, so they agreed on one condition: That he sign a contract saying that he would adhere to his promise and be a better person by the time he's graduated from high school there. By that, they meant that he'd at least be above average in his grades and be able to think before speaking before he came home.

He signed it without thinking twice, happy that he could make up for his previous mistakes...until it occurred to him on the train trip to Inaba that it would be one hell of a ride! Despite this, he was determined to make his parents and himself proud this time.

SAMPLE POST: Helloooooooooooooo Inaba! This is Norio Sasaki speaking- or is that typing- and I'm going to post every day because I have to be a better person and I forget things if I don't write them out! It's only my first day at Inaba and I think it's kind of boring already, but since you're all nice people, I hope you'll help me in my- effort? Adventure- ah, quest to become a good person! That's all, hope to see more tomorrow!

ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE: Ringggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg~ The alarm clock making the sound was almost silenced forever like its predecessors, but it got lucky as a fist barely missed punching it off the bedstand."Urgh, it's too early for this damn thing to be ringing! Least this one can serve me for more than one week since I missed hitting it." The boy stretched and yawned for a good five seconds before getting up to unfold the curtains. "What a nice day, just as I'd expect from a small town!

Hehe, this will be MY day to prove myself!"

The first challenge obviously would be to get to school and learn his lessons properly! But not every day begins that smoothly, as Norio would find out when faced with a stray can on the road. "Tch, what is a can doing in my way? I thought the people of Inaba know better than to litter the streets!"

It was then that he eyed the rubbish bin. It was the kind that had a circular hole, just perfect for the kind of person who liked to practise their can-kicking skills. "Hmm, if I manage to put this can where it belongs, I'll be doing a good deed and I can get smarter from learning how to calculate how things bounce, right?" "If I kick the can to the pole over there, it should fly straight into the hole, score!"

And so Norio aimed and kicked...it almost seemed like he actually did it, but the can just happened to hit the road instead and hit a passerby, who immediately yelled at him for littering and playing with trash.

"I'm sorry it hit you, but the can was there and I was only going to kick it into the trashcan! I'd make it up for you, but I've got to go to school now, bye!" Norio stopped only to throw the can properly this time, and apologize again as he ran off. Though he didn't succeed at learning anything about physics this time, he was sure that he'd get it right someday!

Specific issues would be:

1) Are there contradictions?
2) Are the reactions of Norio's parents unrealistic?

etc.
