I'm not saying it's right for people to let their mistakes weigh them down, I am saying that those mistakes are always going to have an effect on the future, and it is our responsibility to make that effect as much of a good one as we can. To change the future and the present by making a change, not by ending something and starting anew - which is impossible, as every present action and circumstance is based upon previous actions and circumstances and events.
To offer an example of this, let's take your mornings thing. You say you began to realize just how beautiful the mornings and life could be... it's the "began" part that shows that it's not an end of one thing, or the beginning of another, but a change. A change for the better, which may or may not have been instigated by yourself, but it's still a change, rather than a beginning. The "gradual" bit that you mentioned is exactly what I'm talking about.
By my definition of "beginning" and "end", there can be no "gradual" because "gradual" means change, not end or beginning. Clearly, your definition differs, but there you go - that's the difference between us.
