Performance!

Wow... so... updates are in order...

As many of you know, I performed last night... I was dancing Salsa and Merengue with Mary and her friends, and I spun staff while Mary, Aisha, and another freshman by the name of Jacob spun poi. It was quite fun, actually...

I'd been doing the dance for a while, and was beginning to feel comfortable enough to have fun with it by the week of the show, which is good. For the rave, however... I'd kinda been spinning a little, but hadn't figured out what I wanted to do proper yet. A week before the show, I decided to show Mary how to do strings. I had grabbed some extra shoelaces from her a while back and turned them into strings, and I got her started on those (with some dead glowsticks as weights). She was doing some sloppy singles by the end of the night... I figured I had time, and asked if she wanted to spin with me for the show - assuming I could get some others, too.

Well, she said yes, and the next day I asked my group if anyone wanted to learn how to spin. Aisha immediately jumped at the prospect, and I got her started the next day (I think... time is kinda wack in my mind). She had trouble learning singles, but had butterfly within an hour. Later that night the three of us practiced a little, and Mary had singles, Aisha butterfly, and I was being asked about reverse butterfly and doubles.

Let's just put it this way: by the performance, Aisha had a few versions of butterfly and singles down, and Mary was doing singles, doubles, and butterfly. I was impressed.

So, the day before the show, I ran into town to get some better laces and some glowsticks. In the van, I was talking with the driver, who suggested I get the strings from the dollarstore next to Home Depot (where I was going to go for glowsticks). Well, Home Depot had just run out, but the dollarstore (which was cheaper, anyway) ... oh my GOD. It was like, raver heaven. I wound up getting twelve glowsticks (four each of Red, Green and Blue... also had yellow and purple, but purple is too dark of a glow, and yellow is kinda ugly), two packs of six bracelets, and two of these looong two foot twisty bendable glowsticks.

... and then I found out they only took cash. :( and I only had $14 on me! So, I'm like "oh, shit... I don't have enough!" and the woman behind the counter looked at me and said "well, it looks like it's your lucky day!" and whipped out her wallet. I totally was NOT expecting that... so I thanked her so completely profusely (whcih I prolly would have done even if I WAS expecting it) and ran off to catch the van...

Well, the show went well, despite a few weird bits... like it not being very dark at all outside. Everyone got lots of praise (especially Mary! She kicked some major ASS for being so new to raving!) except Jacob, who kinda disappeared as soon as things were done... along with the strings and glowstick I leant him... but whatever. It's all done.

So, yeah... I'ma get back to cleaning my room, now!
