[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Eriol Hiiragizawa
Age: Physically 12, mentally 40+
Gender: Male
Fandom: Card Captor Sakura
Timeline: Volume 11 | after Sakura uses the Dark card again to return the night to its normal state, but before Kinomoto Fujitaka shows up.
History: CCS wikia link | Clow Reed, because it's relevant.

Character Personality:

Eriol seems to be an average, polite child who gets along with everyone, is generally agreeable, and likes to occasionally tease people in his own mild-mannered way. The smile on his face is unreadable for the most part, much like how he speaks with people - he's good at hiding his intentions, and can blend hints and directives in a conversation with seamless ease. Conversely, the reason behind his intended actions has always been transparent, and there's a certain gentleness that influences his choices. He will not spare other people the consequences of their actions or the pain of going through certain experiences because it will be to their benefit, but he will step in should it be a threat to their well-being.

More than anything, he wishes to be his own person, and he sympathizes with the various individuals whose fates were more or less nudged along by Clow's plans to produce certain outcomes for the sake of stabilizing space-time. This sympathy translates into kindness, and his goal to see through Clow's plans to the end is not because they must happen for the general good of others, but because the hearts of others are intimately connected to the outcome. In other words, Eriol believes the need to settle the matter that started fifty years ago is long-overdue, and it is time to finish things so that he and the rest of the people involved can go on to live their own lives.

He's grown to care for, in his own terms, the individuals who helped shape his previous incarnation's life, and he likely is curious to see what they are like in person. It's for this reason he says something like "It's nice to finally meet you" when he first speaks with Yue and Keroberos as himself, and he also made Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon to, in part, to emphasize that he is not Clow Reed, and to encourage Clow Reed's previous guardians to move on from their past.

His will to make things happen is strong, though he expresses this indirectly by guiding people with hints and subtle nudges. He isn't one to take action because things must happen, but because he can see that each step towards that end goal will be beneficial for the parties involved. No matter what happens, he will support a person's decision if it will make them stronger and grow more into themselves, even if they will have to go through a tough time because he knows they will grow through it.

The way he applies himself in accomplishing his tasks may be a reaction to the life of his previous incarnation. Eriol is in the unique position of objectively remembering the reason behind Clow's decisions (seamlessly, in fact; Eriol lapses between using "I" for "Clow" when explaining the events that lead up to the present) and seeing their consequences from an angle other than Clow's global perspective. Having learned from the events of the past and still feeling the burden that is ultimately his to carry as the incarnation possessing both Clow's memory and powers, he seeks to find the end to his situation, not only for the Clow Cards and the original guardians to be cared for, as Clow had originally planned, but also for Eriol's own sake, that he may live beyond the shadow of his previous incarnation.

Character Abilities: A lot of his abilities are ones he learned in his past life as Clow Reed.

Cooking and craftsmaking. Clow Reed and Eriol both cook and seem to specialize in making sweets. In the manga, Eriol also made Nakuru/Ruby Moon a yukata, and gave Sakura pointers in how to assemble her craft teddy bear.

Languages. Clow Reed is half-Chinese and half-British, and he lived in Japan at some point. Eriol has lived in Japan and England, and he likely knows Chinese through Clow. Both of them likely are familiar with a smattering of other languages and whatnot that are involved in magic.

Magic. Eriol is the part of Clow's soul that got all of Clow's memories, magic, and knowledge in using magic. He is likely as talented as his previous incarnation in using it - Eriol made a new set of guardians, and he's used minor feats of magic to gently push Sakura into changing Clow Cards into Sakura cards, including creating barriers to keep outside interferences away, shooting fireballs, and calling upon Darkness to make everyone but the cards mistress fall asleep. There was also that one time he got rid of Sakura's fever for her, and the times when he had to alter/erase Sakura's and Yue's memories to prevent his plans from unravelling too early.

Sadly, he also likely inherited Clow's difficulties in wielding magic, and thus calls on this ability only when needed, unlike how Clow relied on it in the days before That Accident involving Yuuko. By the end of the series, Eriol asks Sakura to split his powers between himself and Kinomoto Fujitaka, the other half of Clow's reincarnated soul, thus relieving him of the burden in being the most powerful magician in the world.

As a sidenote: he can also see spirits because of his magic. Fujitaka was able to see Nadeshiko's spirit after being granted part of Clow's power.

Foresight. Clow Reed has the ability to see the future, and has been known to tell fortunes using the Clow Cards. He also uses this ability to help prepare for the events that unfold in CCS, xxxHOLiC, and TRC. This power was likely passed on to Eriol along with Clow's other powers, and Eriol, in a discussion with Sakura, does mention that he's tired of seeing the future and not being able to switch this ability off at will. It's because of this that he likes surprises, and I believe he's pleased with the two developments Clow was not able to predict.

Plotting. Self-explantory. May or may not be used in conjunction with "Foresight", but the latter's preferrable - fate is bendy and defies powers of prediction.

Character Weaknesses:
As mentioned earlier, he has difficulties controlling his magic, especially for contained spells or works that require only very limited energy, and his foresight. He's damn powerful, but not powerful enough to be able to fully moderate his magic - hence, the reason why Eriol had difficulty in splitting the magic between himself and Fujitaka when they were both first created. This weakness is likely why it was necessary for Clow to create the Clow Cards and his magic circle, since their use does allow for some modicum of control in power output.

[ MEISTER SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: Eriol is his own person - this is one thing he emphasizes in all of his interactions with the people who've compared him to Clow Reed. He will make his decisions based on what he sees with his own eyes, and not based on someone's opinion of what should be done. Furthermore, he's also used to being a guiding hand behind the scenes, and he's skilled at directing people while not being obvious about it.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: peaceful, subtle, patient, polite, playful, confident

Soul Appearance: A glowing dark cerulean with this derpy expression, minus the glasses.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person:

[there is a boy of twelve looking at the PDA with an expression of polite curiosity. The pocket watch in his hand is of a kind he hasn't seen before; a clever, curious creation that a certain someone he knew would have taken apart, or prodded, or poked, or have done any number of spells on. Perhaps it was a good thing he didn't get that person's impulsiveness in tinkering things, too. Otherwise, he wouldn't have known what it was for, or the other things it was capable of. Was it really possible to communicate with this item? There was only one way to find out.

his smile is a fond one when he lifts the device so he could see it better in the light of his room. Those watching the video could see him better, too: the light of the PDA is no longer reflected in his glasses, and it brings out one more emotions - the concern reflected in his eyes was not enough to wholly bury his contentment. Behind him is an open window, showing what lies outside the Casualty Communal.]

Excuse me. [a pause as he decides on what to say next.] Why does everyone seem to be in a hurry today?

Sakura-san, are you here, too?

Third Person:

When Sakura summoned the Dark card, Eriol looked at Sakura's triumphant form against the lit sky that melted into night and concentrated on the glimmer of energy on his skin. This was the last time he would feel such power this intensely now that things were at an end and his other self was drawn to where they were gathered - finally, all could be revealed. It was 'hello' and 'goodbye' to the burden on his shoulders, and he could feel the relief sink into his bones, a breath of fresh air from centuries of living. He could at last go to sleep without worrying that he would know too much of tomorrow.

It was something he found that he looked forward to very much.

The darkness continued to spread, and it was when it covered everything in sight that Eriol came down from the sense of weightlessness, difficult as it was to shake off contentment, and raised his staff, the first inkling that something beyond what had actually been accomplished had gone wrong taking root. The chances of something like this happening was one in a million, and there was no conceivable way that magic of this sort would be active unless it was from an outside source Eriol reached inside himself, directing his magic to make a barrier --

he opened his eyes, and a man with red hair was speaking from a screen. Eriol sat up and listened quietly to what was said about a war and witches and a contract before allowing himself to be whisked away through a long series of corridors with hurried apologies and vague explanations. He blinked, certain that it was bewilderment that he felt at this point, and found that he had control over his movements again once his escort had deposited him in an empty apartment unit. It was his, they said before rushing off, and please avoid the fog outside as much as possible!

It took some time before he felt the world right itself, and he shook his head. An unpredictable tomorrow, indeed.

"Well," he said. "At least the shadows weren't from a giant stuffed bear looming over the city."

Eriol gripped the doorknob and noticed the second thing he was missing.

His staff was gone. He didn't know at that moment if he should make this a problem or not.
