Okay, this is going to be the start of a very important event that my friend Shawn, head of Spectrum, is going to organize. On the Red Cross survey form in order to give blood, one of the questions asks if you have had sex with another man (if you're male) or with a man who has had sex with another man. If you answer yes, you automatically cannot give blood. This question is extremely outdated and discriminatory, especially becuse the target group for HIV/AIDS now is young black heterosexual females.
So, in an effort to fix this problem, we are organizing an event on April 5, 2006 (04/05/06) to protest this. It will be a national event, for which we are planning to get support from GSAs across the country in universities and high schools, as well as gay individuals, groups, businesses, bars, and we also plan to get mainstream media attention.
With that being said, what we need from you are contacts to your school's GSA, schools surrounding yours, any businesses, famous gays you might know, sponsors, etc.
We're going to get a website going first before any of this happens and we want to make sure that no one takes responsibility for it who don't deserve it(such as Human Rights Campaign).
Anyway, just a heads up. Let me know if you have ideas or could help us in anyway through contacts, etc.
Thanks.
