This prompt was perfect for Smudge and Phillip. Alas, I promised to retire them to the novel, so this prompt was a challenge! Watching the consumerism that is Valentine's day, inspired me to write this.
What spell can you weave,
To assure the love of your Venus?
Will her heart be secured
By gifts of potion bottles,
Brimming with intoxicating scent;
Perhaps by ensorcelled stones
glittering with otherworldy fire?
What enchantment can be placed,
To rouse the lust of your Helen?
Will her bed be won
By rich, decadent confections,
Flavored with exotic aphrodisiacs;
Perhaps with heady blossoms,
Chosen for their evocativeness?
What amount of coin do you squander,
Guided by the fire in your heart,
Led by the longing in your loins,
Enticed by the propositions
Of silver tongued thieves,
Following the advice of fools?
Venus' love can be won,
Spellbound, with sincere words
Poured the depths of your heart.
Her adoration assured
By simple moments of thoughtfulness.
Helen's passions can be kindled,
Enflamed, by the unexpected,
A kiss, a tender lingering touch.
Her ardor, ensnared,
With unhurried, lingering, attentions
To all that makes her woman.
Love purchased by treasures
is cheap, spurious.
Passion kindled by wealth
Is a cold, short-lived flame.
Passion kindled by passion
Is blazing, incandescent.
Love purchased by love
Everlasting.
