Summary: "We are Robin Hood!" For better, for worse.
AN: Erm, a very bit weird. Written today on the way back from Wales.

There’s a stranger roaming the woods. He’s been seen leaving food for the poor, taking money from nobles who pass through the forest and has on occasion saved an innocent from being executed by the sheriff’s guards. No one seems able to agree that it’s the same person; some have him down as being talkative and witty (if a little extravagant with his stories), others find him silent and brooding, others say that his words are few and gruff. He uses a bow mostly, though he has been reported to have a staff and to have used a sword from time to time. A number of people who claim to have met him also remark on the axes in his belt. He doesn’t seem to use them.

As time goes on people begin to say it’s that outlaw from Nottingham, the one who robbed the rich and gave to the poor. Upon learning of some new deed - medicine for a family with three sick children, rescuing an innocent from being hung - they thank God and bless Robin Hood.

(If they looked on him long enough they’d see the smile stretch into a grimace)

They call him Robin Hood, and he is Robin Hood. He also goes by “Allan”, “Much”, “John”, “Djaq” (though no one around here seems able to spell it) and even “Will”. He’s quite alone at the moment, though there was a time his heart was heavy with love for someone called Marion. Or Eve, or Alice. Or Safiya, whoever she was. Now there’s no-one to weigh it down and he can’t feel it anymore.

The truth is, he’s not here because there was no more work to do in Nottingham.

The truth is, he’s the only one of them who survived.

And so the rest of them soldier on as best they can, beating up guards and cracking jokes and, “I’m not being funny, but I think you’ll find him we love, but this we do not like.”

Will can’t help it. He just doesn’t want to be on his own.
