Still alive and doing things other than writing depressing fics

First off, at uni, have been for coming up on two weeks now, had introductory lectires etc, this week and it's all going well. One of our homeworks is to write 101 words on a dwarf. My drabbling skills become useful in the academic enviroment for the second time since year twelve history!

But that's not what I'm here to talk about - I don't think I've mentioned but I'm quite addicted to Heroes, as is Lali (incidentally, Lali, if you're reading this, I'd reccomend going elsewhere to do something more productive or enjoyable because I'm pretty sure anything I'm saying here I've already babbled on about to you) and am IN LOVE with the two that aired last night.

Which actually has very little to do with Chris Eccleston.

For all the song and dance made about him appearing in this ep he was there for about five minutes, if that. I'm beginning to suspect that he was going to be one of the big selling points when they brought Heroes over here.

Anyway - yay for the characters all getting together! I loved that scene with Matt trying to read Peter's mind, and Peter reading Audrey's mind, then Matt's so much. Also, Matt giving him the asprin. The part I really loved was the vision thing that Peter has at the end of Fallout. It was cinematically lovely and interesting. I think pretty much everyone who starts off running away from Peter, DL & family, Mohinda don't actually know that Peter has powers, while the people who go to him, specifically Claire and Nathan, know he does.

BTW - that line about Peter not expecting to heal when he jumped? I was expecting him to say something about maybe expecting to fly.

The whole Peter is the bomb bit is interesting, though I'm a little sad about it. Not just because I love and hate Peter by turns, but back when I watched the first episode I was convinced when Isaac pointed at Peter, not the painting and said "We have to stop him" rather than "We have to stop it".

To go on a little more about Peter, I'm starting to wonder if he's actually supposed to have powers. Began when Lali asked if I thought Mohinda would end up having powers (I'm really hoping not - Ii like that there are main characters that don't have powers - I like that they don't have to have powers to be involved), because apparently his sister who died Shanti did. I'd taken this as read, but Lali seemed a little put out by it, because the way Chandra talked about some mutations being cancerous Lali thought that this meant Shanti died because of a genetic disease rather than dying because her powers were out of control. Lali then went on to point out that powers running in the family seems to be a theme; we have DL and Nikki and Micah and then the Petrelli brothers.

Which kind of got me thinking - it doesn't actually make a lot of sense that both Peter and Nathan would have powers. That it to say it does, but if controlled by genetics would be highly unlikely; genetic jumps like this, as I understand it, tend to occur only in one child while the other is a carrier and will take it over to the next generation, if that makes sense. You and your partner are carriers of certain genes of your three children one of the will have CF while the other two are healthy carriers. It's highly unlikely that more than one would be affected.

Now, they had a scientist appear on Heroes Unmasked who considered it not beyond the realms of possibility (though definately not something that's going to happen overnight) that humans may develope pyschic abilities; the brain gives off waves of radiation, which we are capable of picking up - were to recieve and be able to interpret them, who knows? Using this idea, it could be that Peterr's picking up a particular kind of radiation from those who have powers and his body, for reasons of survival, is mimicking these outputs. Him getting sick after absorbing too many consecutive powers could be because of radiation.  This would strengthen the Sylar/Peter paralells; neither were meant to have powers, but both go around stealing them.

Anyway, enough pseudo-science talk from me. Just to say I liked the idea that Peter wasn't supposed to have powers either.

I am also here to complain that the third series of Criminal Minds premiered in America a few days ago, and Channel Five has yet to show the second series (it's too busy showing re-runs of the first series during the graveyard shift) nor is the box set availible over here.

Not impressed, people. I want to actually watch part two of the Fisher King.

(and no sending me away to youtube to stop me whining. that episode's been taken down).

heroes, nonsensical ramblings, criminal minds, uni
