Selfless deeds...

We've had serious rain tonight which has led to a lot of flash flooding in my area. On my way home from club tonight with KatBlasko I saw a car off to my right at the end of an exit ramp that was almost submerged with someones arms waving frantically out of it.

I spun around, drove the wrong way down the other ramp, ran to her car and pushed her into shallower water. She was disabled and could not have walked away. 2 other cars had stopped and just said that "911 was on its way", and then left her there as the water was slowly rising.

When I got to her car the water was at the top of her door, at window level. I'm surprised I could push it up the ramp by myself. I'll credit adrenalin and the fact that it was a Saturn. Nice light plastic car.

She offered me money but I refused to accept, and stated that I could help, so I did.

When the sheriff arrived a few minutes later we started sitting out flares and he said dozens of calls were coming in to 911 from all over the area, and it could have been an hour before another vehicle got there. He had seen me pushing the car and stopped to help.

While recognition is nice... I dont ask for any kind of compensation for deeds like this (unless I am buying someone a tank of gas)...

What do ~you~ do to try to make the planet a bit nicer?
