My Great Aunt Pye's long time boyfriend, Anthony, died this morning.
A week ago his develop-mentally disabled grandson was running to give him a hug, tripped and they knocked heads pretty hard. Anthony developed headaches which got increasingly more frequent and severe. He saw a doctor who said he was fine. Yesterday he went to the hospital with a particularly bad one and the doctor found that he had an aneurysm. Not big, not small is what was described. He was rushed some 4 hours via ambulance to Shreveport last night. This morning as a doctor was examining him, he had a massive stroke and died.
This is a very sad day. Anthony was the epitome of what a cajun man should be. Strong, hilariously funny, unashamed in his seemingly unexpected tenderness, fiercely loyal, helpful to a fault and incredibly talented with his hands. He was the salt of the earth and the only good decision my Aunt Pye ever made. He was warm and quiet, but ready at any moment to make the kind of biting jokes that to many other cultures would seem mean-spirited, but to a cajun are a symbol of affection.
I am so deeply saddened by his death. He will be profoundly missed.
Au revoir, Anthony.
