Yuletide letter 2012
Dear wonderful Yuletide author,
Thank you very much for the story you're about to write! I'm sure I'll be thrilled with whatever you come up with, but if you want some ideas/suggestions/rambling thoughts, read on...
General stuff: I love stories with plot, where things happen, where characters come out of the story changed in some way, even if it's a subtle change. I especially love the interactions between characters, dialogue, snark, personality clashes, confessions, romance. I love stories that don't provide oversimplified resolutions to complex situations, where things aren't necessarily all neatly wrapped up at the end - it's okay if everything's not happily ever after, as long as there's some hope for the future. I like fic that challenges traditional gender roles and expectations, up to and including literal gender-shifting (which is possible in several of these fandoms...). While each of my requests focuses on two characters, please feel free to include any other characters from canon in supporting roles, whatever works for your story. If there are other characters I think would be particularly interesting/cool to include, I've mentioned them in the request, but of course you don't have to feel bound by those ideas!
I prefer my characters recognizably in-character, and don't really care for AUs of the high school/pirates/outer space variety, but don't mind the "what if this canon event happened differently" type of AUs. I love humour, as highbrow or lowbrow as you like, depending on what suits the story. While I feel that porn can easily be the meat (heh) of a story, I like it best when it is wrapped in at least a delicate layer of plot, and when I can believe that it's these characters having sex, that they stay in-character throughout. Although I love porn, I really and truly am open to fic of any rating! If you are more of a fade-to-black sort of author, that's fine; if you want to show me non-shippy character interaction - friendship, rivalry, adventure - that's great too. However, if you do feel inspired to go the more porny route, I love m/m, f/f, m/f, threesomes, foursomes, moresomes, poly relationships, bisexuality, kink - and I'm very hard to squick, so don't worry about that. Please no non-canon deaths or completely depressing endings, otherwise let your imagination run wild!
Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic (link may well be NWS at any given time), Lucas/Cadugan. I'd like something that explores Lucas and Cadugan's gloriously snarky/sweet relationship, or their gradually growing friendship if you want to tackle something from earlier in canon. If you want to just stick to the two of them and the various challenges they face (Lucas's family curse, his obligation to produce an heir, tension between Cadugan's love for the wilderness and castle life, future adventures, etc.), that's great, but on the other hand I'd definitely be intrigued to see what happens if Wolf and Cadugan ever meet again, and where things might go from there... Or if any of Lucas's past girlfriends show up, that could be interesting too! Whatever ensues, I would prefer for Lucas and Cadugan to ultimately end up together, but if there are emotional complications, arguments, gender-bending, threesomes, that's fine. I love the humour of the comic too, so if you can incorporate any of that flavour, that's great.
Oglaf (link may well be NWS at any given time), Mistertique aka The Clit Tease/Vanka of Brogoria. I was intrigued by Mistertique (as is the point, I suppose!) and would like to know more about him - his goals, his origin story, his secret identity... And I think Vanka would make an excellent rival for him, or partner in crime, or they could be a dynamic duo, or whatever other crazy ideas you can come up with! Basically I just want to see how they would interact if they met, who would come out on top (heh) and what wacky adventures they might get up to. Obviously, given the nature of the comic, porn and kink would be absolutely fine!
Books of the Raksura - Martha Wells, Chime/Moon. I love the friendship that's depicted between these two in the books. They're both dealing with huge upheaval to their lives and feeling like they don't belong, so it's only natural that they would have a certain bond. I'd like to see them interacting together, whether on some future adventure or in an interlude within the books. I really enjoy the setting in general, too, so if you want to take the opportunity to show me some interesting aspects of the world, or Raksura society, that's great! If you want to take a more shippy route, I am all for that, but I would request if you do that you also deal respectfully with Jade, not write her out or ignore her. I would hate for her to have to kill Chime for fooling around with her consort ;) Threesomes and/or poly relationships would be fine, if you feel so inclined. I have read the bonus stories on Martha Wells' website (I especially recommend Adaptation, the story of how Chime became a warrior, if you haven't read it!) and the preview chapters of The Siren Depths that are available there, but I may not have time to acquire and read the book before Yuletide, so please no major spoilers for it!
JourneyQuest, Rilk/Wren. I love these two for their sweetness and their communication problems and their obvious burning hots for each other. I'd like to see some further interactions between them, whether having future adventures or romance/sexytimes or both. As far as random thoughts go, maybe exchanging vocabulary lessons in each others' languages might be cute, or Wren learning Orcish poetry/song to impress Rilk, or meeting each others' families and seeing how they react to the relationship? Other characters (especially Yart and Grellnok, who I also love) appearing in supporting roles in the story would be fine.
